Nearly 5,000 Donegal Carers will receive child support this week – Donegal Daily

A lump sum payment of €500 will be made this week to nearly 500 carers in Donegal to help them cope with cost of living pressures.

Donegal has one of the highest numbers of carers per county after Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Tipperary.

This payment is one of eight lump sum payments designed to support families and households during the winter months.

The €500 carer support payment will be received in Carer’s bank accounts on Thursday, at a total cost of €57.3million nationwide.

Agriculture, Food and Marine and Donegal TD Minister Charlie McConalogue today confirmed the payment from the Department of Social Care.

Heather Humphreys, Minister for Social Care, said: “This payment comes on top of the €1,850 annual carer support grant paid earlier this year.

“Thank you to all the carers in Donegal for the vital and valuable contribution you play in our society and in our local communities. Your commitment and work to support those in need of help and support is extremely important and greatly appreciated.

Payment is made automatically to people who receive carer’s allowance, carer’s allowance or home care allowance.

Those who received the annual Carer Support Grant in June and have confirmed they are still caring will also receive the €500 lump sum payment.

The annual Carer Support Grant is paid to all carers who provide full-time care to an elderly or disabled person, regardless of means or social insurance contributions.
