Ayade will set aside a fund for the payment of tips

Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has promised to establish what he described as a sinking fund to address the gratuity issue for retired public servants in the state.

Governor Ayade made the disclosure during the presentation of the 2022 Tax Appropriation Bill to the State Assembly House.

“We will present at the next meeting of the Executive Council, a request seeking the authorization of the Executive Council to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the gratuity,” said the governor.

Contained in the budget labeled “Conjugate Agglutination Budget,” Governor Ayade hinted that “a minimum of N30-50 million from the budget will be set aside each month and committed to the sinking fund so that every two to three months we may be able to make a payment for a tip.

The governor further revealed that “it is a decision that I have already taken from my point of view. So I will get the extract from the Executive Council and seek final approval from the House of Assembly so that we can place an irrevocable standing payment order against our expected entries. So our retirees do not suffer in vain.
