Ameren Illinois offers bill payment relief to low-income customers
COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Worried about your energy bills? Ameren has a solution.
Ameren Illinois operates the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Summer Supplemental Benefit Program. It will provide $12 million in bill payment relief to 66,000 customers.
Ameren officials said inflation and supply constraints have led to energy shortages. The rising cost of supply has led to a significant increase in monthly bill amounts that officials said Ameren did not benefit from.
“The combination of higher electricity supply prices and warmer temperatures is making this a tough summer for our customers, especially those on fixed incomes,” said Joe Solari, vice president of customer experience at Ameren. Illinois. “We were pleased to partner with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and our state LIHEAP agencies to assist our customers in need.”
In addition to the new assistance, households originally enrolled in the state’s LIHEAP program between last September and July also received a credit of up to $200.
A new support cycle will begin on September 1. Candidates can find their local agencies on line. Ameren reminded customers that special terms for issuing refunds are available through July 31.
