Default Dyno results

Now before I go anyfarther,, go here and read about the difference between the Mustang Dyno we used and a Dyno Jet dyno

http://www.activeautowerke.com/dyno/dyno2.cfm

Long story short,,, you can add about 20% to everyones numbers to get Dyno-Jet numbers.

I got up early to swap the Bosch+4 plugs for NGK 4306 gapped at .038.
On the way to meet everyone I noticed my a/f ratios were way lean,, 13/1 or so . So I had to retune driveing down I70. Got the ratios pretty close.

My car was used as a guinnie(sp) pig for some tests,

My first pull was made with the open aircleaner that came with the V.A.K. system, with the MAP clamp set to 4.85v.

Timing went to 15deg advanced

Results were 185whp at 5100rpm,, 256tq at 3700rpm

I reset my clamp to 4.35v,,, 206hp @5150 and 279.9 tq @ 2400

21hp gain and 24ft-lbs,,,, just from the MAP clamp setting I'm feeling better now

unforetunatly,,, my autotap burped,,, started to redownload 1000+ parameters so I don't have the ign timing,,, I will get that tomarrow.

There were a couple other pulls that netted nothing,,,, so I pulled my car off to cool down and give others a shot.

I went and swapped the aircleaner for the stock with a paper Purolater filter.

Pulled the car back on later and made a pull,,,, nothing else changed but the air filter assembly.

Results,,,, 202.4hp @ 4400 and 298.2tq @ 3150 unbelieveable.

making a long story short,,,, dump that open aircleaner,,,unless it is completely sealed from engine heat,,,,

and

MY CAR likes a 4.35v Map clamp setting

I will post dyno sheets later,,, and let everyone post their results,,, I only have mine.

Tom

Interesting stuff, very much so with the air cleaner element. Where do you get the dyno runs taken at?

I have sent a few emails. But will probably trade up rather than build up.

Would it be possible to post the dyno charts, overlapping, with open element aircleaner VS boxed paper filter?

Even though your peak TQ went up it came on a bit later in the RPM range (3150). You put out 279 at a much lower RPM (2400) with the open filter. So the overlayed chart would show a nice comparison in you HP and TQ curves to see how much power you were producing, and within what range.
Also, was the car fully cooled with paper element in VS a run or 2 in on the dyno with the open element? In other words was the car hot with the open filter in?

I personally do not like open filters sucking up the hot air of the engine comp. I think the ideal setup would be a boxed in, hi-flow filter with hi temp plastic (not metal) tubing to the turbo.

Great #'s BTW

Here is a dyno sheet

Yellow is stock air box, 4.35 Map clamp

Green is open air cleaner, 4.35 Map

Blue is open,, 4.85 Map

The stock air box was a cool pull,
The open air cleaner and 4.85v Map clamp was a cool pull
The open and 4.35 Map clamp was a hot pull

Thanks Tom, it's nice to see numbers for open cone verses enclosed air box. People with open cones say they are getting 12 extra hp because that's what the manufacturer said. They don't believe me when I tell them the air box, modified or not, is better than sucking hot engine air. Two thumbs up for you.
