Appreciate you trying though!

MG,
Thanks

I USED to think,,, what the heck,,, if I suck in air that is lets say 100 deg hotter than outside, I am sending it through a 1700deg turbo, than cooling it through a IC it couldn't make that much of a difference, but now I will trade the 2hp I lose for the huge torque increase, and keep the stock airbox for now.

Now, I am building an enclosed air box for the open cleaner, and adding a duct from the front of the car, and see what that will do. I THINK that may give a little more flow.

Ant,
I don't have a scanner, and that was a rushed pic, I will get a better pic soon, but I just wanted to show the difference of a stock air box pulling in outside air, vs a open aircleaner pulling in hot eng compartment air.

Those last two charts not only show more torque with the stock airbox over the open filter, they also show that the stock box makes a lot more horse power from 2400 to 4600 RPM. Good place to have the additional power at the track but even better on the street.

Cold air is your friend.

Only point you miss about stock air cleaner is that dyno runs are done stationary. When in motion, I don't believe there is that big a temp difference, and free flow may be better.

Don,
I ran a 14.2 last year, and the closest I have gotten this year is a 14.4, and that is running DRs now,,,, traction problems solved. The only other change is the open air cleaner. I hope to get to the track friday, and we'll see.

Those charts help a lot.
Your were producing more TQ from 1900 RPM-4600RPM which is pretty impressive.
As well as HP within the same range as stated by 2step.

Thanks for the charts and post.

It absolutely blew my mind,,,, I am looking into a different Idea for useing my "open" air cleaner,,, making an encloser for it. But for now I am keep the stock air box in.
