Default Newbie Owner Question

Hey folks,
I just purchased a 2006 Base Model PT Cruiser with 35,000 miles on it. I have wanted a PT since they came out and I finally have one. I have a question or two. When I start the car, the "passenger airbag off" light comes on for a moment then goes off. This happens whether someone is sitting in the passenger seat or not. Also, when I am the only one in the car, the light does not stay lit. When the light comes on and goes off, is that a test of the light just like any other system light at start up? Also, when no one is in the passenger seat, should the light remain on? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

If there is no weight in the passenger seat, the light will go off. It will only stay on if there is significant weight, but too light for an airbag.

Thank you. The owner's manual was not exactly clear about that. I was worried that the airbag was not operational.
