Default You have it right

It is spelled Venturi, it is an area in a tube where airflow inscreases speed, but it produces backpressure upstream of the flow. Ive never heard of anyone installing onein an exhaust, I wouldnt even know where to start looking for one. nor that it would have an overall positive effect on your performance.

I installed a Borla system and was very happy with it except the car would bog between 2700 & 3000 rpm and was excessively loud in this RPM range. I called Borla and they were quite helpful in explaining the situation. The system as built will fully support a turbo or supercharged system and actually flows more air than desired for the stocker. The solution is a venturi tube which Borla supplied at no charge. It is a stainless steel tube a few inches long that has a shape similar to an hourglass that places a small restriction in the system to flow the correct amount of air. It fits inside the pipe at the exhaust pipe / muffler connection so it is easy to install. The Borla folks knew what they were talking about as the bog is gone and there is now a pleasant vroom thoughout the rpm range.

The venturi you've probably heard about is for the Borla exhaust . Some people with the 5 speed feel the exhaust is to loud inside the car at cruising speed . I have an automatic and it's fine . At 70mph the auto is turning over about 2700rpm , I've heard the 5 speed turns over around 3200rpm which makes it louder .

Just when a mechanical engineer was about to go into a wonderful, and educational discussion of laminar flow, you guys start kidding around. Do you know what the new state motto is in Minnesota? "My governor can beat up your governor."

Anyway, to summarize my lecture, a venturi tube is meant to do all those great things mentioned above, by simply streamlining the airflow. In general, especially with respect to automobiles and their engines, laminar flow is good because it results in less energy loss than its evil twin, turbulent flow. And even Tim Allen knows what that should equate to: More Power!

Class dismissed.
