Default Installed my Borla Header today....

Man what a difference it made compared to the stock restrictive exhaust manifold. Seat-O-Meter is definitely happy now. BTW it actually sounds like it quited the exhaust some, and low end really seems like it wasn't affected that much, but when you're on it hard it sounds awsome. It was no more complicated than any other header install I've done. Now I just have to wait for 35,000 more miles before I'm out of warranty so I can supercharge it. Later and keep cruzin...G

I'm doing a similar modification to my new Pt. The Borla dual exhaust arrived today but not the header. I need to check on the shipment before I tear the exhaust off. I realized a long time ago that it is best to wait until all the pieces arrive before getting too involved.

You mentioned the header was no more difficult than any other header. Did you do it all from the bottom? or did you have to crawl over the engine. I haven't taken too much time looking at the arrangement yet. I just had my front end flamed and I don't want to be too rough on the paint just yet.

I also thought about super charging but I'm not sure yet. I did that to my new miata this winter - man does that make a nice difference. But my wife has been pretty tolerant of all my toys and I don't want to push a good thing. I did'nt wait for the warranty to run out. I only had 2200 miles on the miata.

Does the Volant do anything significant? I have been looking on the Web for some data on the impact this thing has on the intake and can't find anything. Can't say as how I know what it looks like either. From the threads posted here I get the feeling its just a high flow filter in a bigger box to the outside air. Do you have a URL that discusses the merits of the Volant?

Toys are great!!

Toy, the header install was easy, just time consuming, you have to do most of the work from up top and remove the manifold from under the car, the biggest problem I ran into was getting the factory heat shields off. FYI there is a bolt under the manifold that bolts to a brace holding on the bottom shield. Also I used Ultra Copper RTV, it's sensor safe and I have always had good results with it.
The Volant was a simple install and helped out alot across the RPM range and gave a few more ponies, I don't have any URL's to back it up, but acceleration has increased. Now if Hypertech would produce a power module for our cars, I would be set until the supercharger I want comes available.
With the mods I have done I would say the car now runs like a V-6, and probably produces high to mid 15's in the 1/4 mile...

Greg, just completed the header and exhaust install. Thanks for the heads up about the lower manifold bracket. Putting things together was a lot easier than I thought. But alas, I now have an engine light on. It has to be one of the sensors. I disconnected and reconnected the wiring but no good. I was very careful with the tread compound and didn't get anything on the sensors. Any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem after installing a header?

Also, did you try to put the heat shields back on? Or try to fabricate something. The engineers put them there for a reason and I have to believe it was a good one. I know in the past some of my header installs would be too close to the starter and I had to replace starters. The alternator is pretty close on the PT. Any opinions here?

Thanks, Wayne

Wayne, yes I tried to re-install the heat sheilds and I couldn't get them to work. I'm thinking about some thermal wrap to keep the heat down, but I haven't had any problems. I didn't get any light on my install, but what you can try is clearing the computer memory by disconnecting the battery for at least 2 hours, it might help. I cleared mine so the computer could relearn the mods I've added. Is it possible you damaged one of the o2 sensors either on the cat or the collector while unbolting things??? Just thoughts...keep me posted
Later,
Greg
