Default Oil Consumption

I have approximately 9,000 miles on my PT. I use a quart every 1500 miles. Is this normal?? No signs of any leaks. How often do you guys add oil?

Gosh; are you sure you are driving a PT CRUISER and not a PINTO!!!!???? You may want to consider using the nice little warranty. That would scare me to no end!! Hubby just stated that they are Cruisers not dragsters!! Hope you find out what the problem is. Good Luck wu8-o

Not any amount worth mentioning. Been through 3 oil changes and still leak free and smoke free. (Well the car is, can't say the same for me.) Where is all that oil you're pouring in going???? Better get some one who knows the DC warranty codes to take a good look at that!

I read a post on PTCC that indicated there were some Cruisers with an oil baffel problem that caused them to use approximately a quart of oil every 1000 miles. It sounded like an oil baffel under the valve cover was allowing oil to be drawn into the intake, then burned in the motor. I seem to remember one symptom to look for was a puff of blue smoke right on start-up (you had to look at the exhaust pipe while someone else started the car). It was a dealer fix, not a big deal. I'd start there.

4000 miles and one oil change later I have had to add one half pint of oil.

15,000 miles, including a 5,000 mile trip last two weeks in which "Bonnie" used less than a pint of Penzoil's finest.

I read a (very long and detailed) report on oils and as a result have switched all of my vehicles (6) to Mobile One. I feel that the synthetics are a superior lubricant. What kind of oil have you been using in the pt?

I'm using Mobil One, though it has been using a quart every 1,000 miles since I changed the oil to Mobil One @ 4,000 miles. I now have 13,000 miles and it is still "consuming" it at the same rate. Took it to the dealer and he also said 1 qt. per 1,000 is normal. I explained the baffle problem, and he said that it applied only to the earlier models ( mine was built 11/29/00).

I've got approximately 15,000 on my 5 speed Inferno red which I picked up 10/4/01. I'm also using approximately 1/2 to 1 quart about every 1,000 miles. I've mentioned to my service guy and he said that's normal. When I take it in next week I'll ask about the Oil baffel problem. I do not see any leaks on the ground - I'll try the suggestion of starting the car up and having someone watch the tail pipe.
