Default srt-4 type exhuast

i was wondering, since the engines in both the srt4 and ptgt are the same, can the gts be fitted with a srt4 type exhuast? the srt's exhuast is straight out after the cat. in my opinion it sounds pretty mean, i think it would sound awesome with a gt

You can add the resonater to the pt and eliminate the muffler . You will need a shop to bend a new tail pipe as the final 3-4 feet of the PT exhaust do some tight bends. Be aware if the 3000 rpm drone we all experience without the muffler. It can get quite loud. The cat is the only thing in the exhust system that you have to have by law. So you can do as you wish for the rest. I dont think any of the neon pipes will fit so you may have to buy the SRT resonater pipe , cut the extra pipe off, and weld it in to the PT mid pipe.

I love the sound of my srt-4, almost to the point of seeing what it would take to slap the cat-back on my LE. I'm not sure about the bends but I'm pretty sure the spare would have to go.. Added bonus. There is no drone at 3k.

If the resonator is a factory piece, you think the state could MAKE you change it?

as long as you have a cat' and in some states have the exhaust exit behind the last door opening. ( back door on 4 door cars ) there is no laws to stop you. some places may have a sound ordinance but i am sure the resonater will meet that as it goes on the identical engine. The muffler is not a must have by law - except to meet the noise ordinance.

the spare can stay as you are replacing the muffler with a small pipe.

has anybody checked to see if the resonater is available yet at the dealers....?

Most states have laws specifically stating you must have a muffler so as to prevent excessive noise or smoke. If you get away without one, cool. If you don't make too much noise without one, you're probably safe. But if you get pulled without one and it's noticed, it's ticket time. Also, look through state law and you won't find anything about a cat...I think that's just federal and whatever your individual states have tacked on.

Having the cat is a federal law you are right. But what you can do with it is state to state. Such as in california you can not remove it or replace it for (i think it was) 65,000 miles -- NO MATTER WHAT -- rust holes, crushed while 4 wheeling, internal damage, no matter it has to stay. Here in MD you can replace it whenever if damaged. ( a lot of cars get damaged exhausts around here... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Think high flow )

As i stated above the laws are for noise ordinances. Witch makes sense for that is all they do. But with the resonaters being OEM they probably meet 99% of them. Even with out mufflers if you meet the noise requirements they can not make you put them back on. Turbo cars love this part! I built a Grand National for a friend with a tubed cat ( tubing is whare you hollow the cat and slide a tube in side to maintain the flow chararistics) and no muffler. So basicaly it was a straight exhaust. But as in came up on boost it went almost silent. So he passes the sound check easialy. And they wer not able to make him put one on the car.

High flow 3 inch cat w/ 1 resonator here. Possibly turbo back. Goota get this thing on a lift so I can stop guessing..
