The great thing about a heavily modded PT is that no one expects it. I would rather beat the pants off of another car in a PT than a Subaru because it's like "WTH!?! WELL SAID, Air Ride

I've got a feeling that alot of the comments about-- "ricers"-- ect.
on this thread were posted in fun. Not ment to offend anyone.
It' kinda hard to convey emotions on a keyboard.

It has been along time since I've been on a dragstrip and have NO desire to drag race my PT at a strip.
I put the money in my car and had the performance mods done because I like the feel of a good performing car as a daily driver. I use my PT for work, all day long from one account to the next.
It has made work alot more fun and gives me and my customers something to talk about.

Here is something interesting. Maybe someone more into strip racing has some thoughts.

MX-5 posted on this thread that WRX's ran constant 14.7 in his area.

Back a couple years ago I guess, there was a guy, PT-396 that posted on the forums.
He had a PT with a Hahn turbo. He bought an intercooler off a Probe on E-bay for $50.00 and installed it on his PT.
He used 2" plumbing fittings from Lowes to plumb it I guess you'd say.
He used an aquarium pump metering valve as a manual boost controller.
If memory serves me right, he had no other performance mods.

He ran a 14.3 and posted the time slip to prove it.

He did not want to spend the money to do the engine upgrades he knew he needed, so instead sold the PT and bought something else.

The point is, with a Hahn turbo,
a used intercooler from a Probe
and a $2.00 aquarium valve, he did real well.

IMHO--- THAT---- is true hot roddin and you have to admire the ingenuity and creativity.

BTW--- the reason I quoted MX-5 is I have no idea what a WRX is supposed to run in the quarter. Just hasn't interested me alot.
I knew they were fast and it kinda surprised me how the little episode on the interstate played out.
After all it's just---------- a PT cruiser

Depending on the boost and the driver, every situation differs. While the STi is an amazing car with great EVERYTHING, you can still smoke it if the driver doesn't know what he/she is doing. Performance wise I would have to go with the Scooby. Have you ever seen a 700 hp street legal PT!? I think not. The great thing about a heavily modded PT is that no one expects it. I would rather beat the pants off of another car in a PT than a Subaru because it's like "WTH!?! I got burned by a station wagon?!" You would have a greater satisfaction level, in my opinion. Yeah, that's what I said to start with. I mentioned how a highly modified PT most definitely could beat a stock WRX from a roll...phatdad must have not gotten the memo.

Everyone needs to keep in mind I didn't start the comparison for PT to WRX or STi. I clarified points. My own PT will be capable of taking a WRX from a roll when built, though not an STi.

Since this crowd doesn't take well to other cars, it's time for education.

The WRX, even stock, is a beast from a stop. However, it is widely known to most people that race that a WRX has some pretty awful top end power. It's 4th and 5th gears (on a 5-speed) are overdrive gears, which hurts the WRX a lot, and it has AWD, resulting in a larger loss of power through the powertrain. Therefore, a fully built PT should have no problem with a stock WRX from a roll. In fact, if your built PT does have a problem with a stock WRX from a roll, something is wrong with your PT or the WRX isn't stock.

There is a HUGE performance aftermarket for the WRX. I've got video of a WRX running a 9 second quarter mile (yes, a streetable car). If the PT had a stronger transmission and some sort of user tunable engine computer (UTEC), the possibilities would be endless.

With that information, keep this in mind: my PT was my first new car. When my brother was looking into getting a WRX wagon, I discouraged him because I wanted him to get a PT. But he didn't and did get the WRX. My PT is set up for show. It isn't too functional anymore and my family moved to a house with a VERY steep driveway, so the PT had to park on the road. It also could not go places I wanted to go. It ceased to function for my every day life. And so I started looking at other cars to do those duties. I saw the STi had just come out. I liked my brother's WRX. So I decided to get an STi. If I didn't like it, I could just sell it for more than what I paid. I got the STi and liked it.

So, having both a PT and an STi, I stayed on these forums and got on WRX forums. That's the reason I'm still here to talk. I love my PT and my STi. If the PT doesn't sell at NOPI, I'm probably taking it off the market and building the engine myself.

I have no bias towards the STi. It is better for racing and daily driving, though, while the PT is my show car. There is no griping about a PT that MIGHT one day be as fast as my daily driver. That is something I find quite odd about these forums...

On WRX forums, people respect other cars. Although no one likes losing a race, it's part of racing. Someone has to lose and you take it in stride. But the VAST majority of people there do NOT talk trash about other cars. They don't call a PT crap because it can't keep up with a WRX. They don't call overly chromed PT's domestic rice either. They are polite and respectful. People with Mustangs, Hondas, Supras, SRT4's and more are on the WRX boards. No hate, no name-calling, just discussion, cool stories and videos and nice people. Not so here. I know the Aztek thing is not meant to be too serious, but some people carry it way too far. Same for the Element. Same for the Scion. Same for the WRX. I'm noticing a trend.

Cut it out. Real car communities don't like the fringe that has no respect for anyone else. Wondering why your group isn't too accepted at shows? THAT IS THE REASON. I am accepted by ALL the local and even distant car communities I choose to frequent, whether foreign or domestic, show or race. So is my PT and my STi.

Learn to respect other people and their cars. The PT community has a long way to go.

And if anyone thinks my clarifications are not accurate, let's race. I'll race ANY of you in your PT, from a stop, from a roll, for top speed, handling or even stopping. I'd prefer to leave it at this forum because I highly doubt anyone will like the results of said race. It seems I'm the only unbiased person here, which is sad. Loyalty to car is great and all but it can go too far.

If anyone wants to insist their PT will beat an STi, quit dreaming but do PM me. Considering the lack of tolerance here and the ABSOLUTE lack of knowledge, I'm not going to follow this thread by email anymore. It isn't worth my time. This is one of the things driving me away from PT boards - THE PEOPLE ON THEM. I really like a lot of you but there are enough know-nothing big-mouths with no respect or tolerance that it really ruins this place. I also see a lot of other people run off regularly, while they had been regulars. I see why now. Not so with other car forums I frequent (and no, not all are PT or WRX specific).

EDIT: I get told off by phatdad and respond, then my post gets edited by Admin claiming it's an attack. That's it for me. I'm off these forums. It's a waste of my time.

RN,

It's not edited because he didn't say:
"you are an @ss"

I saw that this morning. Very childish. That is a personal attack.

If you don't see the difference, I can't help you.

Afraid it's you who has a long way to go, RN. Calling people names is a no-no here (it's called a personal attack), and that's what you did. Suck it up and learn from it. Or not. Up to you.

Hot cars and hot tempers. This reminds me of the fist fights we had as teenagers in the parking lot after a race. Do we ever really grow up . . . No.

Second pharagraph, first sentence. Sentence started "you are an @ss."
It's since been edited out.

Default ricers

RN I call all jap cars ricers and yes I own not 1 but 2 ricers . sorry if I offended u . Did u ever think your post offend people? I think I just say things with a little more gusto than most people. For your info my car is also a show car with over 30 trophies and has been in a national magazine that is the first time and last that will be posted. I also feel that because I own a Hahn Stockum rocket it makes me much more qualifed than u to comment on it. I dont comment on STI , and yes I think they are a great car even wish I had 1. I have many people come up to me at shows and ask why I would put all that moula into a PT. I have had people tell me they are crap ,that they dont like them and I take it all with a grain of salt. If I offended any others Iam sorry but I dont like getting on these forums and reading about what PTs arent. I like reading positive things about the car. After all these forums are about the PT . RN once again Iam sorry if I offend u but this is how I am . I will still call jap cars ricers and Iam not jealous that u own a STI now if u said u owned a corporate jet I would want to get to know u. Rejoin the forums look at all the good performance talk we just started. Once again sorry if I offended any of u lads . I will try to be a little more tollerante. When I showed my post to my wife this morning she said are u nuts u are gonna get slammed . Like I said above thats the way I am I like to stir the pot every once in awhile
