Hey Ant.....I see in your description of your vehicle, you have a 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust. If I am understanding this right, the down pipe your referring to is one to replace the cat. If I am wrong.......disregard this. If I'm right, I thought that any one whom replaces the cat would bring on an engine light due to the computer not seeing any diff. from the sensors which would be mounted on the inlet and outlet sides of the cat. Any info on this ???? I am thinking about doing this on my GT. Thanks.

Al bought my complete exhaust system, which uses a high-flow 3" CAT. A transition cone was used from the flex joint , which is about 2 5/8" ID, to the 3" CAT. The system was custom made for my car.

Thanks! ... Bob

BTW there are a lot of cars much faster than Al's, ... you just don't expect to be surprised like that by a PT.

The WRXs strong suit is "traction and acceleration from a dead or slow roll and cornering under power.... " After 35 mph or so, ... all that AWD stuff is extra bagage and friction. .. From a standing start, ... I'm sure the story would have been different!

GREAT job AL !!!!

I know his wife very well and I'm pretty sure that she got a big charge out of it too!!

Al and Phatdad are exploring the limits of the PT automatic.

... so far, ... so good! I would like to see a BIG transmission cooler on both of them, ...... The cars I mean.

Thanks for the info Bob. Who is the manufacturer of the cat. Are the aftermarket cats much better than the factory one which comes with the GT Turbo ??

CATCO is who I used. I don't have any way to speak about the GT CAT ... ?? Don't know.

I'd like to hear more about those tranny mods... & anything else you can add to this (short of a Turbo)

One would have to expect that the Turbo has to be a high flow cat from the factory. Any one aware of a Chrysler contact that could assist with a few more Turbo questions ?? Thanks all !

That's for sure. There are a lot of cars faster then mine.
To me, what makes street racing so much fun is, from the beginning, PT's got a rep. for being slow, underpowered, ect.
That's all you heard.
Some off the guys you race wouldn't have believed in their wildest imagination that their car could be beat, much less by a PT Cruiser.
That just wasn't possible.
Sometimes if you're sitting next to them at a light, they get this silly little smirk on their face.

What a humbling experience when your rice burner with all the stickers and the big aluminum spoiler on the rear gets a good whupin by a--------------------- PT Cruiser.
Bet they don't tell that story around the campfire, ha,ha...
Bet to, some of them lay awake at night staring at the ceiling trying to figure what the he!! happened.

And you're right Bob, Ann loves it when we go zoom zoom.
She even likes the sound of the turbo, exhaust, blowoffs, ect.
Heck, we don't even listen to the radio anymore.

OC Cruizer, neat letter ! I have a GT Turbo and I have added a K+N Vortec filter and a boost contol and BOV. With the intake noise and the BOV venting, my wife has in so many words, called it a farm tactor. Some ladies just don't get it. Sounds like you lucked out !!! Happy Cruzen.......and may the noise be with you !

a high flow cat does not mean a less efficient one. the reductuins should be the same (or better on some models) as stock. Just with better flow - about 30% on average. PLUS upping to 3" you really open the flow for the turbo to do its job!!
