Thumbs up Another Bob S. GT intake installed

Well, we installed another BOB Stockum GT intake & bored TB in MNSHALES early PT Cruiser yesterday. while it was a little easier to install the 2nd one, we ran into a couple bumps that we didn't expect.

Early built PT (the 1st one's) are slightly different under the hood so the same mods I made on my car didn't exactly apply to his. We over came the issues, & even managed to modify his K&N FIPK intake to work with the new intake layout. Its not pretty, but it functions (FIPK) Some paint will be needed later.

Anyway, got the car together took it for a test drive to make sure everything was working properly. checked for leaks. Then... I took him for a LOOP on the Hwy. Man that car is LOUD!!! He had duals exhaust installed & the FIPK. but it was a very cool sound when he would pass by or if I was behind him.

We did take pics & notes on most of the install. He has them. we will develop the pics (yea I know but digital camera was not around when we started). we will wirite up the notes & get Bob to do the editing in case we forgot something.

when we are satisfied that it makes sense, then we will post it for you all. We figured if we did not have the issues & 3 trips to NAPA & Homedepot for parts, it would have taken 4-6 hrs for the install. Maybe less if we used air tools.

Its not a hard install, we did not cut or splice anything except the ERG tube as per BOB S. instuctions. As far as if it was worth it, you still we have to ask MNSHALE. Like BOB said it is an enabler. The next part to this should be the Cams, timing gears & Tensioner.

We now have all the air we can breath going in & out, we just need to work on the timing. Its not a turbo, but then again if he wanted to add one he still could.

MNSHALE has the roll. Maybe we can post some teasers till we get the "guide" finished.

The early built PT's have the power steering reservour in a different place than the later models. There will be some cutting of the mounting bracket that will be needed. We have pix to show that.

I used a sawz-all, a hack saw will work also.

From there...its just all disassembly...various bolts, etc etc. If you have an early build PT(like me) here's something of note. Chrysler changed powersteering fluid bottles and the positioning of it midstream. If you have the one shown below...there will be a little more work..

To compensate for this piece of Chrysler genious...you have to make 2 cuts on the new bracket that comes with the GT manifold.....

Cut 1

Cut 2

After we first installed GR8FLPT's a few months ago...this bracket thats in the engine compartment becomes a pain to deal with...just get rid of the darn thing and use zip ties for the wires/plugs that were attatched to the bracket....

dont need this sucker!

Another minor project you will have is moving the coolant bottle over about 3-3 1/2 inches. What hardware you use is up to you. Here are a few things we had on hand...

Ok...here's another part that involves some involvement on your part...other than bolt this there and go. The connections of the EGR tube used between the standard manifold and the GT manifold are different. Here is a picture of what Bob supplies us with...

What you are going to have to do is cut the elbow section off of the old EGR tube. Test fit the GT manifold into place and look to see about how far down you are going to have to cut. Mark it, get your pipe cutter, and twist away!

Before you slip the new end connection into the tube...get something like JB Weld putty to cement it together and hold it in place. Here's a picture of it all in place with a big chunck of JB Weld...
