I have a new item you can try! How about a strate pipe no (muffler)
sound is great if you keep it under 3200 rpm not a lot of noise inside the car like a lot of the exhaust systems have. This can be changed in about 2 min. back to stock

Any time my PT is under 3200rpm is when I've parked it!

Look at the dyno results I posted in June.
The 2.4L PT motor doesn't make much power below 3800rpm.

ilmpts,

I didn't mean only in 3rd or overdrive.
I normally run the low gears myself. They shift way too early to please me.
Wifey needed the auto trans, but I shift it like a stick.

i m SUPRISED that folks R using that PVC plumbing. WHy not radiator hose? It has some natural insulation, doesnt rattle against other things. and can be secured with std radiator clamps. U bet it can take the heat, with engine heat being close to 240 degrees max these days.

I used pvc pipe because its cheap
& you can`t find radiator hoses that will fit in all the right places plus radiator hoses are not cheap!
As far as rattles I have none But to each his own!

I did something similar. I took 1/8" x 1.5" rubber strips with self adhesive backing and wrapped the entire upper and lower portions of the box. I have the turbo, so I also removed the baffles and the fender intake pipe. Finished it off with a drop in K&N filter. It works fine, cuts down on any potential rattles and blends with the black engine bay. Got the rubber in roles at Home Depot in the A/C department.

The test results are in and they are good!!

MX-5 and I ran some unscientific temperature tests yesterday while taking a country cruise with his PT group. On the Higway trip over to the park, the outside temp was 75. The ambient temp at the wheel well was approximately 73.5 and the throttle body was at 76 degrees. The insulation kept the temp down to a 2-3 degree temperature increase. On the road test the outside temp was still 75 degrees. The wheel well temp was measured at 74 and the throttle body was between78 and 80, a 4-6 temp increase. We did not have an opportunity to do a control test, but I will reference MX-5's previous temp tests for comparison. http://www.ptdoityourself.net/ptairstudy.html

Enjoy!!
