A reprint from an earlier post:

Straight from Poweraid/Airaid:

Dear Sir, thank you for your inquiry in our products. The spacer makes no HP on the dyno. It makes all of it's power in torque in the low end. If you haven't noticed any power on the Dyno or the track then it's doing what it's supposed to. You would not see any gains down the 1/4 mile or increases on the dyno. The idea of the spacer is to improve overall drivability and fuel mileage. In most cases when people install a bolt on part they expect better mileage and power, what happens is they are into the throttle a lot more than before trying to test performance and thats when the decrease in mileage happens.

Sincerely,Matt
-------------------------------------------

So...

(1) "The spacer makes no HP on the Dyno. It makes all of it's power in torque in the low end.". - That's a quote from AirAid.
(2) "If you haven't noticed any power on the Dyno or the track then it's doing what it's supposed to." - Another quote from AirAid
(3) "The idea of the spacer is to improve overall drivability and fuel mileage."
(4) HELLO...HP and TQ are BOTH measured on the Dyno. Guess they didn't see any TQ gains either...and they can't provide any proof.

So...it doesn't make any more HP, is NOT supposed to help in 1/4 mile performance (or on the Dyno), and is mainly for mileage and bottom end Torque. Hmmmm...Dyno's show TQ figures and there were no changes, mileage stayed the same, and 1/4 mile performance wasn't affected on the several people who have tried it (including myself). Hey, that's worth the $90!

BTW: They still aren't able to explain how the spacer keeps the swirl effect through the two turns (90 degree and 45 degree) in the intake plenum.

The swirl can bend.. we all have seen the tornado videos.... But it can not divide half way hown the lengh, no less divide 2 more times before the combustion chamber.

Even as a milage booster I have yet to figure out the physics to how it improves anything. It adds another inch that the engine has to suck the air thru, and adds turbolence as the 'Threads" are to angled to spin the air as it goes bast at the speed it does.
That 'Tornado thingy " might be a better bet as it has vaines not threads to actualy spin the air. But then again you have 3 dividers to go past.

Mileage did get better for me (1+ mpg, and I do keep track). Seemed to help low end, but I don't have a dyno around me. Was it worth it?? I thought so at the time, and still do. My opinion, but I'm not Bob Stockum and his word is gold here.

Sounds like circular logic to me, as well!

You know Bob, I have one on the '01 and my gas mpg went up 3 mpg. That's no puppy poop. When the '01 was mine I kept gas records from the time it was new, before and after I installed the spacer. Now the wife has the '01 and does and it's still true. The mpg is still up 3 mpg. I did not notice any power increase so that claim is BS. / Quote

The only way I can imagine it could give you an increase like that, ... would be by helping the air get around the "split in the intake", ... right after the TB. That is where the restriction is on the stock intake anyway. If the "swirl" worked out just right, then I could see a possible smoothing effect around a tight spot inside the manifold.
.... I can't argue with success!

The real test would be to slip it off for 1 or 2 tank fulls and see if the milage drops the same amount.

Thanks for the in-put!! ... Bob

Here's something to try:
At the next CTFregistration, ask for ten volunteers to test a "dramatic fuel-saving device." Tell all ten to keep accurate fuel-milage records for the month before CTF. Then at CTF, install the devices in only five of the Cruisers (but don't let anyone know who has what). Have the volunteers do the same fuel-milage recording for the next month. I would be surprised if ALL 10 Cruisers didn't see improvement in their milage, just from the drivers thinking they had a fuel-saving device on-board. If drivers are really concerned about fuel savings, they drive with fuel-savings always on their mind, and it reflects on their driving style.

The way to test this product is to do a true double-blind study. If the thing really works, it should work for folks who aren't even aware it's on board. but that would require a TRUE double-blind study, with people driving Cruisers that were modified without their knowledge. Anyone out there have access to a rental fleet of PT Cruisers so a proper test could be tried?
