Question Hurst and Turbo 5-Speed

I'm thunking that any real Hot Rod has to have a Hurst Shifter. Does anybody know if the new(?) Getrag transmission in the Turbo uses the same shifter as previous 5-Speed models?

Nope, the standard 5-speed Hurst kit will not work on the Getrag.
I'm sure they will come up with one eventually though.

I'm sure they will, too. My old Dodge Daytona Shleby Z had the Getrag tranny and Hurst eventually made a swifter shifter for it. It was trick, just like the one in my Cruiser now.

A Getrag tranny with a Hurst shifter...that's super slick!

I called Hurst a couple months ago and they said they were working on it. I am sure a little more expressed interest would not hurt the cause. Seem like every time a call a company about making something for the GT they say that they didn't know that there was an interest in that particular item for the GT

I wonder why the hurst won't fit....cuz I took a B&M sport shifter out my '01 and put it into my GT without any problems . I'd probably would have done the same if was a hurst seeing as B&M was looking for someone to bring in there 5-speed GT to test when I e-mailed them that I was using their sport shifter successfully without modifications even while the shift pattern was different on the GT .

Does this mean that you have a Hurst in your Turbo Cruiser?

I haven't taken the consol apart but I don't see either why the Hurst would not work. The inside hookup should be the same. Car manufacturers try to keep as much the same as possible when offering different models and the shifter is just hooked up to cables that run to the trans on the PT. This isn't like a RWD car where the shift linkage and stick are right on the tranny under the hump. I wonder what the difference is, if any?

I bought one of those CD based repair manuals from E-Bay for all of the 2003 PT cruisers. I've looked and I've looked at the diagrams for both the getrag and the other 5-speed and I can't see any difference.

The problem is, I just can't afford to order a shifter from the 'states and not have it fit. The best price I've seen is from Jegs @$170.00 plus tax and shipping. Multiply that by 33% for exchange and you can see why I'm being very cautious.

The difference is where reverse is located ....although when I installed the B&M 6 months ago the linkage /hookup was the same as my old na '01 cruiser . i wouldn't want you to risk it either but ....hurst may never get around to it based on the limited 5 speed turbo's .

Do you really think that the B&M Shifter will work?
