Default 1-2 Shift Burp questions....

Hey all, I did the Mod for the 1-2 shift burp... but the wire.. taped it all back up, etc....(was too lazy to put a switch in right now).
Anyway... I only notice the difference about 25% of the time... and do notice the pull to the right... very nice feeling.
So I would say out of 50 times of punching it to the floor... only about 10 times has it given the desired effect... the other 40 times it is just like before. It seems to work best after rounding a corner going around 10mph... then punching it.
Anyone else noticing this? not quite sure why it would not do it all the time while flooring it?
I've got a K&N Kit coming soon(I hope)... maybe that will help.

I'm blushing!

The 41TE auto trans controller is a learning computer. The harder you drive it ALL THE TIME, the faster it will shift.

The shift points can change as it learns the driver's tactics.

Default Learning computer...

I;ve heard that before.. problem is I can't stomp it down all the time with my girlfriend in the car... typical woman..."you're going to break something......."
My typical reply.... "it's under warranty...... so %^&* it".

I friend of mine has a Mercur(sp?) and has 2 chips in it that he can switch between... one is the stock.. one is performance... he just flips a switch. how nice that would be for the PT... maybe even 3 would be nice.... performance...... stock... and high MPG.

Default 1-2 Burp recap.....

So as I understand it...from the PTDIY site:

During the split second that the transmission shifts, it requests the engine PCM to cut the fuel injectors and back off the timing. That causes what we call the 1-2 shift burp.

The circuit is simple. One wire goes from the Power Control Module to the Transmission Control Module. All that is necessary to remove the shift burp is to cut one wire.

As I stated before after I did this I've noticed a difference about 25-30% of the time. If the wire has been cut, the tranny can no longer send the signal for the fuel injection cut off and timing change.... so why is it not working 100% of the time. You're saying the 41TE controller "learns"...doesn't the PCM do the learning also?

I understand that the 41TE might learn to shift different pertaining to my driving patterns... but the "burp" signal should not be able to get thru to the PCM with the wire cut.. right?

I would actually think that since the signal can't get to the PCM telling it you are shifting... it would not cut back the fuel no matter if you are flooring it or just driving nice & easy.

It just seems very intermittent on my PT.. would like some more consistency.

TIA.

You are 100% correct.

The cut wire will elliminate the timing and fuel cut.

The rest of it.... ie: the rpm and mph of the shift points will change as the TCM learns your driving habits.

The fuel will not be cut at all, ever.

Cool

MX-5 Thank's for the tip, I did mine before I left for Carlisle and what a difference and took a couple of people for a ride in MsAlmond and on Sunday morning I was cutting wires on 4 cruisers, now all I have to do is get MsRed out of garage and do her. In the 60's we used to set our tranny pressure-up on our TorqueFlite to get a faster shift, and this is a great fix for the cruiser tranny. Thanks again
