250HP at the wheels ( Post #1 )
First off i'd like to say a big thank you to Bob S. I just got back from the Hot Rod Power Tour, boy what a fun trip. To get to the point Castrol Syntec was sponsoring free dyno testing which included two pulls and for $20.00 more they included Air/Fuel ratio data. On my first run I got 250.3 HP and 262.7 lbs of torque on the second run I got 244.4 HP and 260.5 lbs of torque All HP and torque readings are at the wheels. FYI, I was running 18lbs of boost with 93 octane gas and a little timing retard. I know I can probably get it close to 300 WHP with a lot more tuneing. Car was running very rich at all RPM's and had a high RPM ignition miss. BTW I have the dyno sheet to prove it Thanks Again Bob S., ARM DJIFE |

Hey great runs DJ! Now the fun begins with the tuning, tuning, and more tuning. Keep us all posted on your progress.

Yes, ... the engine was left "SAFE" when it left here, ... meaning RICH. The thing that is really holding all of the horses from waking up, ... is getting CONTROL of the fuel and ignition!!
Chrysler "hosed us", on the computer side of this equation!! They put every function that could be controlled into this ONE computer, .... by doing so, they made it all but impossibel to add an engine management system on the engine. The best we can do, ... is to try to "trick" the computer into NOT knowing what we are doing with the fuel and ignition!! When I let someone drive away, (like 500 miles away), ... with one of my engines, ... you bet I want it to be as safe as possible! If you get tied up with a tunner that only knows the Honda stuff, ... he could very quickly burn your engine up, ... by leaning the system out to try to get a perfect air/fuel ratio!! 300 HP at the engine is the target we were shooting for .... and we made it right on the nose!! Is there more to be had from this setup? ... sure, ... for a dyno day and bragging rights, we could lean it down and run some racing fuel and 20 PSI and make 300 at the wheels, ... but I wouldn't send an owner away tuned to the limit like that!! Remember, .... we are still feeling our way with transmissions and clutches, ... seeing how things are going to hold up. We have just DOUBLED the HP of this engine !!!!! You should ride in a PT that runs like this one!! What a blast! Great job Rich!! Let's do lunch!! ![]() Last edited by bstockum : 11th June 2003 at 07:17 PM. |

Bob, lunch is not a problem. Here is some more info about my dyno runs as described in the 1st post I have some type of ignition miss at about 3,000 RPM which I still have to figure out.The air/fuel ratio according to the chart was a high of 17.5/1 on the first run and then on the second run for some reason beyond me, the computer I assume brought the AFR down to 12/1. Both runs were run on high boost set at 18 lbs. The engine is running Crane Cams, Springs, ignition, GT intake upgrade a huge intercooler, Clutchmasters stage IV clutch with an aluminum flywheel and some flow work done to the heads. The reason I know the engine can make more power is the problems I am having with the clutch(slippage, chatter). When I went down to Turboville to get some engine work and testing done Bob noticed the clutch was slipping. Well on the dyno i'm pretty sure the clutch was slipping again. Oh, Bob the thing about feeling the clutches out your 100% right I drove all the way from Arkansas to New York without the clutch releasing what a B!TCH that was. As soon as I figure out whats wrong with the clutch i'll be down for lunch. Thanks. ARM |
