In another forum he posted that his son timed him and that he would be going to a strip to verify times when the weather cleared up ! So take it for what it's worth !

Thumbs up 180* Thermostat

I've read every test and comparison available to me on this issue, and never saw or heard of the hotter 'stat providing MORE power than a cooler one! The cooler 'stat always topped out higher, at every RPM setting. I agree that a 160* may run the system in closed loop, but a 180* should be fine and should provide a little more power. This won't affect the heat in the Turbo or boost (unless it helps the antiknock sensor, and that would ADD to the boost, not take away). Need to check this out a little further.

Default re: 160 thermostat

According to our resident Guru, Bob Stockum, a 160 will indeed help. The only situation that could cause a problem is if the engine does not heat up to at least 160 degrees in something like 10 minutes, then a CEL would be activated. I do agree, however, that a fan thermostat set to come on at anything over 160 degrees would be very helpful to maintain the temp where you want it.
