What the manufacturer means is "you may get zero to 20hp". The answer is closer to zero.

Then they add all the "up to xxx hp" together.
Then they add more hp for the Japanese decals and stickers!
Then they add some hp for a huge, heavy, wing.
Then they add some more hp for lowering springs and expensive wheels.

Then they drive to the IHRA track and PARK.
They don't even run it!

Then they open their mouth and all the BS starts flowing.
Test & tune is $5 to watch or $15 to run, so I don't think it's because they can't afford to race.
Ah, the infamous words "Up To". It's about time for the FCC to make that statement illegal and have it replaced by "A Minimum Of". Wouln't that be a concept? Truth in advertising!

You're absolutely right about the track. I see several tricked out cars with Proud owners who never dare make a pass for fear of embarassing themselves. I had this one guy with a GTI proclaiming his car should easily run over 100 mph in the low 14's. I quickly took up the challenge and told him I'd give him $100 if he ran over 90 mph. He took the bait and went 88 mph in the high 15's. He had a great reaction time though, 1.08 seconds or something like that. This poor sucker's girlfriend was in the stands watching after his mouthing off episode so I'm sure she was real impressed.

Sounds about right. +20 hp for a cool decal, you know. People made fun of me taking my PT to a track then thought it was funnier when I ran it. They told me I should have known it would be slow but were surprised when I told them I ran to find out exactly HOW slow it is.

Next car, however, will be a whole other story...
