It's still your decision...I had race and street do my cam install on my '01. They are very experienced doing sc installs also . Their mechanic is excellent and I also contracted him to install all my gauges on my turbo. The cams make a big difference in engine performance and so does will sc. The question to ask yourself is well you be content with just cams or sc with relatively low boost 5-8 lbs. If the answer is no to either . Then your better saving your money a little longer and building the internals of the engine up to handle the increased horsepower and torque you're after. In my case after installing cams, header and ignition on my '01 I was still looking to increase power more down the road . What prompted me to trade was I had already sunk close to $3k in the engine and I had flashes of good performance but a lot of problems ,too. I was looking to build the internals up and turbo my old car . Probably another 6k . I was able to get 215 horses and a 70,000 mile warranty ( had no warranty on my '01) by trading. My final cost for the turbo was less than 20k even paying off the remainder of the '01's loan.

Interesting, I wonder what the trade in value is one my '01 TE PT, I only have about 11k miles on it...., that + the 5k or so allocated for a s/c install and other work, it just might be worth looking into.

I'm on the east coast (NYC) and am leaning heavily toward a s/c as apposed to a turbo. There seems to be a lot less work necessary on the engine.

I'm not really interested in going over 215hp, unless I hit the lottery or my July bonus is way over what I expect it to be (4K).

So for a one time 4-5k investment I think a s/c is the way to go if only for the reduced installation costs and other upgrades.

I will call the dealership on Monday just to get an idea of what a GT will cost me.

Default Cam Installation

GR8FLPT,

No, my engine is completely stock. I did go with the Taylor Cable Wires and Ignition Solutions booster + a hedder. I've got to believe I'm in the 180-190 hp range...don't know for sure.

The last race engine I built was 40+ years ago so I don't know nothing about todays engines nor do I own tools anymore. PT-Tuning convinced to...just enjoy the ride! Makes sense to me!

Thanks Pink, So I gather you added header & exhaust. Then topped it off with the SC. Do you like it? or wish you had more? I have a turbo intake & bored TB coming! that should help a weee bit for now

Been "talking" to BOB Trying to figure out somthing. Wife says I could "upgrade" to GT but I have to come up with $$$$ on my own. Well at least she didn't say no!

GR8FLPT,

Naturally, you always want more horse power but you reach a point where you have to weigh the costs vs performance gains.
Some guys just enjoy working on their cars...I don't...been there and done that!

I think the Whipple is a good bolt on product...worth the expense in my opinion but I'm certain you can find those who would disagree.

I have driven GT's...very nice indeed. Perhaps, my next vehicle will be one (?).
