Default Turbo, or Nitrous, some stuff i came up with..

, i responed to a fellow enthusiast. here..
in refrence to why not purchase a nitrous kit,
as i re-read it,,
i felt i had some strong reasons and just wanted to share them with every one thinking about makeing a choice,
as there were a lot of issues addressed in one shot,
and i actually did some real math.
,,
the person, was willing to spend 1000 on a complete nitrous system,
and was only going to use it a very limited amount of time,
, as he was a sane driver and drove the posted limits,
But once in a While,, LOL, we all get that Urge.
it seems his major concerens were
cost,
adverse. wear on his trans and engine.
long term cost, ( higher grade of gas)

here it is,,
a bit modified,,

lets say 99% of the time you drive normal, just 1% of the time you want to have a bit more power,
ROUGH ESTIMATES.
12,000 miles per year, x 1 %
120 miles,
avarge 60 mph say,
thats 120 mins. of power you need,
now divide that by 3 min per bottle, thats roughly 40 refills
in one year, at 40 a pop, is 1600. 00 add the 1000.
your at $2600, for one year... and ONLY 1 % of speed.
,,
Seriously are you going to use 40 bottels in a year,
Maybe 20,, one about every other week,,
thats still 1800. + 800 for the next year. your right back to 2600

put the turbo on your credit card,, roughly 2500 for stage one,
both have to be installed, but its fair to say the turbo will cost more, say 500 more is fair.
it will be about the same, if you spread it out over 3 years,
and you will have power 100% of the time.
.
as far as gas goes. yes it more, (but i always put in super anyways)

12000 mpy.
avarge 20 mpg
about 600 gallons
super is roughly 25 cents more a gallon.
THATS ONLY 150 for a year.
2-3 bucks diffrence at every fill up,
,,
please take my advice,, i have both systems,
and no matter how you drive or how you use them, i cant see the nos beating the turbo in the long run. ,, sorry.

even just normal driveing like merging onto the freeway and
passing a semi-truck and such, the turbo shows how usefull it is, its just better all around ..and makes the car more rounded, and the way it should have been to start.
,,
light turbo charging doesn't put undue stress on your engine,
automakers use them every day, and many run 200000+ miles,
turbo chagring is not any worse for your engine than nitrous,
actually. many people will say nitrous is worse,
no automaker uses nitrous?!?! so what does that say???

as far as transmission stress, it is possible for the nitrous to be way more stressfull, as you are filling the cylinders the most when you first hit the switch,, then it gets less and less as your rpms, increase,
,
SO if you hit the switch when you first start out, that will be very stressfull on the autotrans, you should wait till your going 5mp at least, then hit the button.
,, as im sure you know there is a slight lag with turbos, and that make take off easy on the autotrans, ..

with a man trans, your in control, so its what ever you do.

hopefully you will heed my advice, and take a second look at the turbo system, if not, great luck in the install of you nitrous.
,,
i know lots of people who have nitrous and dont even use it any more, , as its a pain in the a$$ to pull the bottle opener off, remove the heater, undo the hoses , undo the bottle clamps, take the bottle in to a store that has nos, , ( if there open) ( Hope they have any nos left) take 10 min to get it filled, them repeat the entier process to reinstall the bottle,
then only get 2-3 min of power....
It gets Real Old, Real Fast.
, every one i know who has a turbo, uses it everday,
and while your going threw all that, hassel, for , just 3 min of power,
they are smileing. getting power any time they want..

SERIOUSLY, spending 1000 on all that ,

Just go the distance and get the turbo,

i have address every one of your concerns about how you made your choice of nitrous, ,,

theres nothing easier than steping on the pedal whenever you want to have power. and want to race some one at a stop light, even just to 50 mph.
you have nitrous, you have to open the bottel, purge, turn on the warmer, arm the switch, then Hope you have enough to beat the guy, what happens if you do beat him, and he wants another up to 50 mph race at the next light,,
WILL you have enough nitrous left for that,
I know my turbo will have it.

hope you could all use the info,,
Please no haters,,
just inteligent remarks, either way, yay or nay.
and no spell check Jokes, LOL

I agree with you. That's why I have a refilling station at my own shop. Much eaisier and a lot less than $40 per refill.

I'd like to add a couple things to the math you've done.
Setting up and tuning the system last year used 17 bottles. This is nearly June and I've only used 2 bottles. Granted, my IHRA track was closed for resurfacing for a month.

Let's consider installation cost to the math.
I can install the NOS in under 4 hours. That's less than $200 @ $60/hr.
A full turbo install can run over $1,000 just for labor.

Let's consider removal.
I've owned over 57 cars in just over 20 years of driving.
I'm already on my second PT Cruiser.

I can remove the entire NOS in under an hour and I only drilled 1 hole to install it. I can now sell or trade-in the car without searching for a buyer who specifically wants a boosted PT.

Removal of the turbo would be disastrous. Holes were drilled all over, including oiling lines in the motor itself. Selling a PT with an aftermarket turbo will require a narrow band of interested buyers.

I'm just trying to show both sides of the math.
I will not argue about it.
The turbo/sc/nos debate can go on as long as debates over religion. Everyone thinks you should feel the same way they do, and it's simply not going to happen.

(and I didn't make fun of your spelling)

But when you sell the car you would tell the person it had nitrous on it before wouldn't you? If I knew a car had nitrous on it before I would be very careful about buying it.

(())ehh, 500-800 maybe more, its hard to say, some one like me will do it htem selves, and there is no cost,, so its really a per person basis, but your est is fair. (())

(())yeah thats very true,, I removed most of mine in like 12 min.

very easy, (())
