Default Computer vs. Performance Upgrades

From various comments from Cruiser owners and especially GT owners it seems that aftermarket upgrades that normally show some increase in power, don't. I am a novice at this but I wonder if the computer, which I believe has a "learning capability" makes some adjustments to counteract our add-on accessories. If this is the case, then until someone cracks the code or produces a new computer chip all of our modifications are weakened. Anybody have thoughts on this?

You can do a search on the topic. But generally, every performance mod you add in, it has been suggested that you either disconnect the battery for a few minutes OR ask/have the dealer reset the computer. The reset brings the computer back to baseline and the "learning" process begins all over, this time taking into account or adjusting (faster) to your new mods. I know a lot of people that disconnect the battery every so often to get the like new car performance back or unlearn their daily driving routine. Since the computer chip is soldered in, It would take some care and expertise to install a new replacement chip. Just about all the chip mods out there are just reprogramming your computer.

The chip learns how you drive and reacts to it. It does not learn how to lower power that you have freed up. It will learn how to deal with what you have added to best suit your driving style.

Such as a intake mod. The chip does not try to restrict the higher flow of air, but learns how to use it to do what it neds to do for how you drive. So if you drive like a old ladie looking for a address it will not add as much power ( because you mever ask for the power ) than somone with the same intake and floors it at every stoplight and runs wide open on the freeway. because he is allways asking for the max he will get the max. It may not even notice a diffrence if it is never used to its potential.

the same is true for all mods that the chip can compensate for.
