Default MDS coil fame or shame

MSD Coil 96 1/2 -03 $68.95
MSD Blaster Coil Pack Blaster Replacement Coils this coil fits mid-year 96 to present. Some 96's use early style. When it comes to late model performance parts, nothing beats bolt-on and direct connection components. Especially when they improve performance with a hotter spark like these new MSD Blaster Coils. These new bolt-in coils are designed with improved materials and windings to produce a stronger spark. This improved spark helps burn the fuel mixture more efficiently resulting in a smooth idle and improved mid range rpm power. MSD is pleased to offer these performance coils for the following applications. They look great in MSD red and will connect to the factory wiring. Please let us know the year of your car.

So what do some of you gear heads think fame or shame would like to know before I buy thanks....

Ok if you don't know about the MDS how about the screamin demon!! then would like some reply guys,,lots of lookers but come on alittle help
Screamin' Demon Coil for the 00' and Up PT Cruiser

The Screamin' Demon Coils are designed to produce an exceptional spark throughout the entire RPM range with virtually no drop in power. Stock coils are notorious for falling off as RPM goes up. Our Screamin' Demon Coil has been dyno tested providing 3 more horsepower at 5000 rpm over stock coils. The Screamin' Demon has a brass terminal for which your coil wire attaches to. The brass terminal is more conductive than the stock aluminum terminal and will resist corrosion longer. Plug gaps can be widened to .060" due to the energy of this coil. The wider spark plug gap will allow more spark energy into the combustion chambers providing more power and improved mileage. The Screamin' Demon is too "hot" for stock plug wires. 8 mm spiral core wires are highly recommended.

Price: $62.95 Each

OK,
I'll respond with my opinion.

Chrysler designed a rock-solid ignition in 1973, and they still have no problems firing the spark plugs.

There hasn't been a coil failure or misfire concern due to coil voltage ever reported.
Even the double platinum plugs I brought to market are more for longevity. I did not consider performance as a feature.
In fact, I still run the standard copper plug, due to the NOS.

Those who are changing perfectly good wires & coils are doing so as a visual mod.

Even those who claim that wires and plugs cured the rough idle or hesitation most likely needed to replace the plugs due to age. They are supposed to be changed every 30K miles and sooner on hard-driven engines.

Are you having a problem with your engine that you are trying to cure, or are you following the advertising hype from retailers who are trying to make a profit?

Default ca$h wasted

I put one of these on my other car '95 Dodge Avenger and noticed nothing. Took it back off and put the OEM back on and will stick the MSD on EBAY! Plus they put the MSD insignia on the back...

On what? Something that produces a Hell of Lot more power than a PT to start with.

Can you get a bigger Forest fire going with a big match or a little match? As long as the spark initially ignites the mixture, the rest of the flame propogation is automatic, ie once the explosion starts, its not going to get any stronger by having a bigger spark.

High energy ignition systems are required in extremely high compression engines with massive airflow to prevent the spark from being blown out. The PT has no such problems, even the blown version.

Thats sound fair so since I have a super charged PT this would be a good Idea.

I understand all the hype on spark and hot ignitions, I am just asking if these are better than the stock ones,,some of these mods work and are worth the $$$ spent and some are not worth spit,,even if I get 1/10 hp then it is a gain. I will be taking the motor to the next level in hp,,just am doing my home work before I waist an other 4-5 grand on crap not needed.

The only thing that would make a POSSIBLE difference would be a multiple discharge ignition system on your blown car. (it "strikes the match" several times in each combustion). On a forced induction motor the spark can get "blown out" and this overcomes that problem. Just lighting a bigger match doesn't really do anything. Besides, most manufacturers use a high capacity system as stock.
