Default need new spark plugs

I have 20,000 miles on my car now. I would like to replace the spark plugs. Any recomendations on what plugs to use? I have dual exhaust and cold air intake so I would like to use some plugs with more performance.

I'm with you pt4gt. I would also like to know what kind of high performance plugs I would be able to get. Hopefully someone can kill 2 birds with one stone. Now I just have to wait for my car to get out of the body shop.

A lot of us went for the Champion Double Platinum plugs. With them an the cool air intake I got rid of the hesitation from start-up and now it goes right up thru the rev range without missing a beat plus MX-5's wire cutting trick helped also. The Champion plug number is 7440.

From what I know the stock plugs with the PT are copper and thus, are better conductors of electrical charge than platinum. Copper is not as durable as platinum therefore, you will be replacing the copper plugs more often but from what I know, you will get better performance with copper than platinum. I could be wrong but I recall reading an article in Cruiser Quarterly which reported basically this same thing. MX-5 being the electrical expert will probably know best. Good luck and let us know what you decide and how they work out.

That's correct.

Stay with the copper plugs for any forced induction engine.
Turbo, S/C, or NOS should use the standard #440 copper plug.

The #7440 double platinum is designed for longevity in the N/A engines.
The #3032 is a heat range colder and is single platinum.

The smaller tip and self-cleaning tip temperatures of platinum plugs are more likely to cause pre-ignition under boost.

There is nothing wrong with the ignition system design on either the standard PT or the turbo. There is enough voltage to fire the plugs and no concerns of misfire. Leave it alone.

Maybe you shouldn't have pt4GT as a user name.
We all think that means you have the turbo GT PT.

GT is my name (initials). I have this user name before they named the turbo.

Ok, so MX...for MY non-turbo, with performance exhaust, and AIRAID cold-air intake, please clarify WHICH plug would be the best. And also, what about plug wires?

Thanks!

Kat
