There is nothing wrong with the OEM plug wires. If you change them, it's for visual satisfaction.

MX-5, when would you run the "colder" plug, #3032?

Ruby,
The answers are already discussed at PTCC. A search for "spark plug, double platinum, colder" will yeild the results you need. Here's one post: I install a lot of plugs on PTs. Here's what I use: Champion #440 - stock plug with closed gap for nitrous Champion #3032 - colder heat range, single platinum for turbo & S/C Champion #7440 - double platinum, for better durability in a stock motor. Here's the info on the Champion 3032 from www.napaprolink.com Back to Previous Page Quantity From Catalog Server: Line Code CHA Part Number 3032 Description Spark Plug - Platinum Power Attribute Thread Size:14mm,Hex Size:5/8",Reach Length:1",Seat Type:Tapered,Type of Packaging 6) Boxed They come 6 in a box because they are designed for the V-6 minivans. If I kept all the multi-tip, V-groove, and splitfire plugs that I replace because of driveability problems, I could choke a whale! And another post of mine: It's a trade-off. The double platinum #7440 have a very small platinum contact area on the ground electrode. This promotes high heat for self-cleaning. Combine that with greatly increased cylinder temps under turbo & S/C boost, and you can get detonation and misfire. It's not the tip size, it's the high heat and the inability of the projected core nose to dissipate that heat. The #3032 plugs have a standard ground electrode as they are single platinum. The nose is recessed further into the plug body, hence the colder rating. The ground electrodes ability to dissipate heat is the same or better than the stock #440 copper plugs. Since they are colder, the chances of heat induced misfire under boost are lower. Also, since they don't project as far into the cylinders, they reduce the compression ratio by increasing the chamber cc's by a very small amount. I use the stock #440 for nitrous. The gap is closed a bit to reduce the chance of misfire. The cold spray helps to elliminate detonation. Nitrous is only sprayed sparingly. 99% of the time, you're driving within normal parameters. Turbos and S/C engines are under boost every time you leave a stop light.

Thanks for the response, MX-5. Try to remeber, not everyone on these boards is a member of PTCC. I did the search you prescribed and was told that access was for "members only". That's why I don't even visit that site. If i'm going to spend money on info, I'll buy a book (like the shop manual) and not spend it on an internet site.

Ruby,
I'm not a paying member at ANY PT forum. My topics at PTCC are on the public side. There is no membership fee to pay. Look on page 2 of the performance forum. Al Hazel titled the topic "new spark plugs available" http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/cgi-loc...gi?post=131968
