Default Factory Upgrades

My son has a new Mini Cooper S. He recently was contacted by his dealer stating that they had factory tuning upgrades that would take the hp from the 160's to around 200hp. Wonder if DC will have the courtesey to do the same with Cruiser owners?

I doubt it.
The PT engine has some MAJOR weak spots like the connecting rods and cam belt tensioner.
I can't see DC wanting to warranty the engine with an additional 40 to 50 HP.

They say they are going to come out with upgrade packages for the turbo pt but I would bet they will be along time in coming.

Check out www.bstockum.com He has alot of info and pictures of the inherent weak spots of the engine.

Theres a new variant of the Cooper Turbo. I forgot the name, but I was sure it was being sold as a separate edition, not as an uprade. I think I read it in Automobile or Motor Trend this month

My son has the Mini Cooper S, which is the supercharged version. His dealer told him that they had an upgrade available for his car. Not sure of the price, but it added around 40hp. I thought that it was interesting that the dealership followed up with their performance minded customers and at least informed them of newly announced upgrades.

the PT GT upgrades will be out as soon as they release them for the SRT.
STage 1 and 2 only...everything I have heard points toward release within the next 1-2months, so it should be in time for a VERY fun summer if you get a stage 2 and take it to the drag strip

I have to admit, the mini cooper was the car I originally was trying to get but... my car was costing me to much to repair so I ended up buying the PT cause I couldn't wait out the 6months for my mini.

but if I ever can into some extra money so I could own 2 cars... even a used mini S would be a blast to have.

If you never driven one, you need to do it once. It is a awesome fun little car. I owned a Honda CRX for 11 years, I'm starting to get too old to CRAWL in/out of car thats one of the major reasons I went with the PT.
Now if if got 1/2 the gas milage of my Honda I'd really be happy...

Haven't driven the new version but spent a lot of time in a 1275cc Mini in late 70's in Australia. We called the Mini a "flying brick" and it could corner like nothing else. The Cooper S was actually used as a police pursuit car in Australia and in 1966 won outright in the 500 mile Gallaher race run on the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst Australia. Top speed was 110 mph on the downhill Conrod Straight. It was (and hopefully still is) a mighty little car. If I didn’t have to transport two large dogs I’d have considered one, or maybe an Audi TT which is costly but definitely a fun little car!

There are a number Mods that you can do to a stock Cruiser that will bring up the horsepower from 150 to 190hp

dual exhaust
Air Raid or K&N intake
Thottle body
Changing the chip

beyond 200hp I would worryy about damaging the engine without changing alot of other things
