Question Swaybar - rear axle part #,s

Hi all,

My GT did not come with rear sway bar either. Went to the dealer and the mechanic gave the answer that the rear axle was beefed up and it did not need it. Maybe if someone can find the part numbers for the 2001/02 and 2003 rear axles and they are the same, we can debunk the DC position and get the rear bars added.

Good luck,
Kidgt

That is a great idea.

Thumbs up Got the bar installed on my GT

Well after reading all the people who tried to get the bar and links installed and failed I have to say that I got mine installed under warranty on my 2003 GT this morning at my dealership with no problems at all. I can only say they might not have been up to par on the latest coming down from DC but it is a 5 star dealer and I was given no hastle at all. Took about 1.5 hours total time and just driving home it feels better to me but I havn't had time to push it yet. If they change their mind which they could I'll let you know but for now I got the bar and it cost me nothing just like it should have. Anyone else have any luck yet?

Hey Powertrip, How is the weather up there in Toronto? I lived there for 10 years and moved to Florida to get away from snow!We lived on Hazelton Ave near Yorkville. Will

Hey another local boy! It's a little cold up here right now, but luckily I spend most of my time on the West Cost Yorkville is a great area, especially recently as they have really been sprucing it up lately. Some of my favorite restaraunts are there...

, heres the prespective form the other side of the desk,,
as a 5-star service manager,
, if you make your case to the dealer, and are one of the first., and are convincing, you will get the bar,, if the dealer checks the dail machine, and tries to send it threw warrenty, it will come back rejected,, at my dealer we have never had any one complaine, so no rejects yet,, these other dealers have probaly had the claims rejected and now they know its not a COVerd item,
im sorry dc plays games like this but in reality, chrysler is not paying for the bars your dealer will be, ,
and thats not fair
we dont build them,
we fix and sell them,
, though for personal experince,
i can not agree any more .
the rear bar is mandatory,
and there is a sever diffrence, in handleing,
, and they even have 17 inch wheels, and it still feels mushey on conners,
, i have looked at the rear tubes on both the 01/ 02 /03 and 03 turbos,,
and i cant see to much diffrecen if any, but i never messured them,
, though the turbo appears just a slight bit bigger
, but how can that compensate for the an entier sway bar, just the operation,
of a sway bar, is to knit the suspension right to left, front to rear,
, a straight tube cant knit,,
a zig zag knits
, no comparison,
imhop
,, my advice, is to lightly drop it, an inch and add rear sway bar, and a beefey front,,
, then you will have a mean machine.
ps i also aggree with contral,
there are some crazey bean counters at dc,,
, look at all the things a 25,000 dollar car doesnt have that a 17,000 doallr car does.. that are the same modle diffrent trim
we all know the list,

the sway bar is just another to add.

what size in mm is the anti sway bars DC put on the 2001,2002 PT's? If the rear end is beefed up a little maybe a smaller mm bar is needed. DC needs to make good on this issue and if the 2002 bar is not good for the 2003 then make one for it and put on our cars. I hate having to go buy it but if I must getting the right size is important. I bet the aftermarket folks will jump in soon with the parts we need.
Hopefully it wont come to that and DC sends us all letters saying come get your anti sway bar.

Finally a reason to feel good about rushing into a LE '02 last Fall. It's always a concern that the newer model is better. Sounds like the '03 has some booty-wigglin problems.

After the sway bar install i took it out for a ride and it handles way better now.If they tell you adding one will hurt the handling they are FOS. How could adding something to make it sway less hurt handling? I also added a front strut tie bar and contrary to their thinking it helped handling also. I feel bad for the dealer now after reading the post from PT-Turbo as they have been very nice to me from day one about it but not bad enough to pay for it myself when the car should have come with one in my opinion. I wonder if thats true if they would take it off if I go back in for something else? Got me wondering now. I'll keep you posted.

Maybe the decision was made by the same underwriter who was covering the roll over claims. Since the roll over gas leak issue was so big that DC had to have a recall for it. It would make sense that if DC made the PT "feel" more unstable, then people would not drive as fast and be more unlikely to roll over. All while saving $$$ at the same time while backing up their claim with a fairy tale.
