Default Fuel

Just curious...liquids and gases are more dense when colder. How much is gasoline affected in that manner? What happens when really cool gasoline runs through an engine? Does it just stuff more fuel in during the intake stage (due to being cooler and more dense) or is there just no change at all?

hey RN

I don't no if cooling the fuel is as important as cooling the air, as long as you keep it cool enough to keep it from percolating. Fuel will at a realy low temp I can't remember what. That's why I used to run a "coolcan" to keep it in a liquid form on those 90+ race days.

the air as you probably know will hold a lot more oxigen when cool and the more O2 the better, just ask those nitrous guys

I ask because I know that more oxygen is better and was wondering if you have more of both, wouldn't that allow for a potentially more powerful combustion? If you have a lot of cool, dense air with high-lift cams and chilled fuel, wouldn't that produce more power per stroke? I hope no one thinks I'm an idiot for asking this...I just think physics and come up with odd questions like this quite often. Given how most of my questions are received here, regarding performance, I choose not to ask most of them.

Jackson racing sells a fuel-cooler device, which operates just like it sounds.
It features an aluminum extrusion housing, and uses an electric peltier element for cooling the fuel as it passes through.
I've always wanted one, but hasn't fit the budget just yet.

That's awesome...I'm assuming that means it would help some but be terribly expensive.

It wouldn't be very hard to make if it did cool enough to make an effect. I have a peltier hanging around that cost me less than $20.
Sounds like all I need to do is basicly cut the line & run it though a drilled out block with a heatsink. Problem with peltiers is that they are soldered at a low temp... so under hood heat could cause a problem with the peltier melting

Why not just check into a cool can?

They sell them at Jegs high performance and Summit Racing all it is, is a small insullated cooler with a heat sink, and an out for your fuel lines.

You fill it with ice works great for about $60.00
