Default Newbie Tire Size Question?

Boy, my GT isn't due to arrive here in the islands for another 2 months but I'm already shopping for new wheels & tires. Didn't want to fork over $600 for the Chrome "Clad" stuff.

Anyway, I'm considering some Boyd Smoothie II's (17x7) w/ some 235/45-17 rubber. After using some of the online tire size calculators, it say's that this new combo would run about .8" oversize or 1% slow. What would be the tolerable +/- deviation from the stock circumference without screwing up the speedo/odo/ABS?

BTW, I want to thank all of you for making my decision to buy a PT a easy one. And I'll also blame you for all the $$$$ I'm going to spend making mods.

Aloha,
Mark

Hi Mark- and welcome to PTE!

Its great that you did the research!! 1% should NOT affect the ABS at all- I believe its 3% deltas that cause the ABS sensor/computer to shut down the ABS.

So- what colour did you pick?

Aloha (I wish.. )

Mark, ...anybody,

I'm confused. Mark said he's ordered the GT. Doesn't the GT come standard with the 17" spoke wheels that are "real" chrome? Are the 17" an option on the GT that you don't have to buy? Mark, didn't want to put out the extra $600 for the "clad" wheels, but the "clads" are 16"..he wouldn't have gotten them anyway? fill me in ??

You are correct (i think) The 'CLAD' are 16" wheels. The GT comes with painted 17" spokes or for and upgrade you can have the CHROME 17" spokes. Peace out...

BTW- how many GT owners have painted wheels and cloth seats? Thanks

Man, I've been trying to post a reply all day but it wouldn't let me. Finally bypassed my NAT firewall and Bingo!!!

Anyway thanks for the welcome & the info.

Sean - I went with the Electric Blue. I considered the Onyx Green but when I saw the Elec Blue I just had to have it.

Are you guys sure about the chrome wheels. If you go to the DC web site and use their "Build My Vehicle" app it does say "17-Inch Chrome Aluminum Wheels" if you choose that option for $600 more. However when you get to the last step & click "Print or view vehicle in detail" the last sentence in the description reads as follows:
"Additional features include a dual media sound system, chrome-clad wheels, and supplemental side air bags."

Oh well, I wanted to go wider than stock anyway so I still would have gotten the painted ones.

Thanks again for all your help.

Mahalo,
Mark

The one GT l drove had chrome wheels on it, not the chrome clad wheels some of the non-GTs had. Looked nice.

GT comes with a sweet set of 17's chromes. Do know why you'd substitute those. They are very tasteful, unless you want a wider tire. You are getting a turbo, right? (GT)

Aloha...

Welcome to PTE... Can't wait to see those pictures with the Boyd Smoothie II mounted on your Electric Blue turbo...

That slight of a difference should not effect your ABS...

I run with 16x7 Smoothies on my Surf Cruiser and glad I went with an inch wider that stock...

Yup, ordered a turbo. Like I said, I do want to go wider so I still would have gotten the painted ones even if I had known that they are chrome plated.

Now if you guys tell me that in addition to being chrome plated that they're also 17 x 7 then I'm really going to be bummed!!!!

I don't see why the Chrysler web site would state that they're chrome-clad when they're in fact chrome plated?!?! I'm probably the only idiot whose got the exact OPPOSITE problem with DC's statements regarding their '03 wheels.
