Default mod for GT owners

while we are awaiting the arrival of a cold air kit for out cars i noticed the snorkle extending over halfway into the air box so i cut it off flush with the housing and noticed a little quicker response. seems the air had to travel farther then make a sharper bend up into the filter now the air has a cleaner path to travel

my next mod will be to instal a K&N and possible put those 9 holes in the bottom of the airbox.
i did this to a motorcycle airbox and noticed an improvement in response and throaty sound

fourspeed,

did you also notice, and remove, the white plastic silencer that slides into the top of the air box?

I just did something very similar to my non-turbo PT. I had installed the K&N drop in filter and removed the white plastic internal nozzle, but still wasn't happy with the performance. I removed the lower air box and noticed the same snorkel mentioned by fourspeed. If you look at the internal diameter of the snorkel, it appears to be smaller then the throttle body opening, thus, a restriction in the airflow. So I bought a 3" diameter, aluminum, jointed vent duct from my local Ace Hardware for $1.59, cut out the original snorkel, opening the hole to 3" and inserting the duct into the hole. I then removed the first joint of the duct, closest to the fender well, so that the duct opening is just above the cold air opening in the fender well. I then used a little "Shoe Goop" around the duct on the inside of the air box to hold it securely in place. There is a NOTICEABLE increase in power and the throaty sound when pushing the accelerator down is very pleasing. I think this is just as good a system as any of the aftermarket cold air induction kits, and a LOT less money.
