Question Re: Torque Struts or inserts

My ugly mount was still intact, everything still attached like it should be, just a bit deformed from the un-matched upper. If the rubber is no longer attached yeah its time for new OEM piece or a filled piece.

But if you can just basically touch it and it moves - not a good sign.

schucks/kragen auto has a stout OEM replacement mount, it actually has more rubber than the OEM mounts do, that if you wanted to put inserts in you would have to cut away some of the rubber not just the overwebbing to get the insert in there.
Well i checked them again today and the top strut i can pull clear over to the fender and see the rubber and center piece still sitting bolted to the block. really dosent look good for inserts. i guess i will order the complete upper and lower strut and get it over with. but how in the world do you get that upper out without breaking a.c. lines ? that is going to be fun..oh no Kragen stores here in Vegas.

have a helper hold the lines, there is some play not a lot but some. Use it and there will be bloodshed. Stubby socket wrench helped me out when I did my N/A. I got little hands but then I'm a girl so I was the one elected for the top mount, its a PITA for sure. Take your time and remember "Beer is the reward."

I know about the Kragen/Schucks since a buddy of mine works for the Corp. Side and ordered his wife's replacement mounts. Have you tried Napa.com?

And remember if you can't find it for the PT try SRT-4(neon) 03-05 any of those will be exact same part.

Found the struts at Cheyenne auto parts (napa store).
$37.00 for top and $39.00 for bottom. they look a lot stronger then the original, i think i will get inserts for them now and save doing it later down the line. Thanks for all the help.

Well i installed the upper and lower torque struts this morning, took 2.5 hrs, the top one came out in 2 pieces and there was no way to put it back in all togeather so i mounted the saddle and then positioned the strut and started the bolt, had to move the a.c. lines some and wiggle my fingers down into the cavity to start the bolt, then i put locktite on the threads and cinched it down with a 18 mm wrench and another one as a cheater.
The bottom one took 30 min. to do. piece of cake!!!

Cool Re: Torque Struts or inserts

You did the right thing by replacing those. They were toast!

You might have gotten the torque struts for the SRT-4. I noticed when I changed to solid mounts on my SRT-4 that the OEM torque struts looked alot stronger than the OEM PT torque struts.

Thanks for all the help. yes they are the SRT-4 struts, the bottom one is way stronger looking then the original, dosent have the little thing screwed to it just beefier and a lot heavier looking.
I cant believe i thought of having it done, guess being almost 70 isnt so old after all.
