Default Tape Mark Repair

I repaired the tape marks on both bumpers in about an hour. Very easy to do and it's done with the authentic gray bumper color from SEM. The same one that's in the official Chrysler TSB.There is no need to follow all the preparation steps as outlined in the TSB. Just wash the bumpers well, clean again with alcohol, mask and spray with the SEM brand paint. You want to concentrate on the tape marks first with several light coats, then fan out the spray toward the center of the bumper. About three light coats in all will work. I painted the entire bumper to cover some other marks. Drys in minutes. Any overspray on the body will come off with "Goof Off" or similar. Easy to do. Theses bumpers where completely white where the tape marks where. Refections are from the light, not the shade or the color of paint. Looks like new. No one knows it's been painted - matches great. I used about 1 1/2 cans. Do it yourself for under $15.00.

I like that solution! I kinda like the bumper-color on the car. I didn't want to get my bumpers painted (plus, I have the PT Cruiser lettering on my front bumper, which I'd have to remove and replace). This looks like a nice quick and relatively easy fix.

PT Frank, that looks great. sure your work and info will help lots of others out there. if i had not found a dealer to paint mine, i would have followed your advice! makes me wonder, if the repair can be done for 15 bucks in a few hours, why is Chrysler still giving owners a hard time about this fix?!?!

Not sure. However, the rather involved preparation that the TSB calls out for is not really needed. They just want to to sure there is no residue, oils or embedded dirt in the plastic. I just cleaned the bumper with my favorite car shampoo, then wiped down the entire bumper with alcohol several times before I started. Before anyone begins to spray, make sure you get yourself a can of "Goof Off" (Walmart. Home Depot etc). Any overspray on the body paint can very easily removed. The entire area around the taillights on my car was covered in overspray from blowing winds (yes, I did this outside too) and it was easily removed with this product. No harm to the original paint. However, remember not to touch the bumper with that solution, it will remove the new paint! Regarding the spray paint - The secret is light, gradual coats on the white area. Once that is covered, you can proceed to spray the whole bumper if you choose. The paint is so close a match, you might not want to, but I needed to cover some other self-induced defects! I did this three months ago, the pictures are recent, so it appears to be holding up quite well (car always outside, no garage). Hope this helps.

PT Frank,

Thanks for the link and the tip! I think I'm going to fill in the four holes on my front bumper and paint them over with the SEM-39273 to finally get rid of the ugly bumper syndrome.

I'll probably have to relocate the bracket, but as long as the holes are not visible, then I cant take the front plate off later and not have to look at four holes in the bumper!

Just make sure you blend the new paint in with the bumper. If you do this very gradually, you will hardy notice any difference at all.
