Unhappy 2002 PT Recall

I just read in the Toronto Start that the 2002 Pt Cruiser is being recalled for the following: The steering shafts may have a defective or mislocated weld that could fail. This may cause loss of steering control. Correctionealers will replace the lower steering shaft.
Now, I don't know if this is Canada and/or the U.S. but I would be checking with your dealer right soon.
Hate to see anybody have any accidents with their PT.

Mike

Mike if there is a recall, then it would affect both Canadian and USA Cruisers since they are made in the same plant in Mexico....

Thanx Marc,
Boy do I have egg on my face...anyhow, this was in the Start today and I guess DC will be issuing recall notices soon. But I would still my DC dealer anyhow and check it out.

Unhappy

I saw the same recall notice in the Star today. Wondering whether the PT I ordered (and expecting in the next week or so) will have this recall issue addressed.

I would suspect that it affects certain manufactoring dates, as it had before with the computer update problem found in the 2002's.

According to the info sheet Sci_Fi gave to me at the SoCal Valentine's Cruise yesterday, 1,800 PT Cruisers are affected by this recall, but which ones they are is not specified.

Cool

As of 02-17-2002 this morning, NHTSA doesn't list any recalls for the 2002's at their site. NHTSA

Default Another Recall

Has the other recall for the instrument cluster already been posted? I checked the Canadian Gov't website and it just has the cluster recall.
The recall for the steering is not yet posted, but probably will in the coming days.
For us Canadians with 2002's, call 1-800-333-0371 for more info.
As for our US counterparts, I don't know who to ask except maybe your dealer. He/she usually receives them right away.

Sometimes YES and sometimes NO. Different Gov't agencies can selectively determine their OWN saftey standards!

Daytime running lights for example.

The 2002 Recall does NOT appear HERE yet.

Here is a good site for 2001 PTC TSBs and recalls- CLICKY
