Talking Handbrake Problem

Hey, thats my letter that they posted on this subject at your
link! Cool, had no idea my question to Motor Mike had made
it into a permanent listing. Yes, I did have those problems
with my Emergency Brake too, but, I have to say, it seems to
have fixed itself, or I am just being more careful when pulling
up the Parking Brake, I have not had this happen again to me
in about 9 months now!

I haven't noticed a problem, yet, but after reading through the thread last night, I am more conscious of it. It works, but I think it needs to be adjusted. I feel it goes a bit too high before I feel comfortable with the "braking effect"

BTW, I have always believed in leaving the car in gear when it is parked. It is a good habit to form.

Our E-brake...or handbrake as we call it in the UK had the same problem. We took her back to the dealer.....with a print of the TSB* from Chrysler. They had already replaced the whole assembly on 6 other cars, so they did the same with ours. It's a known problem, so if yours starts to suffer get back to your dealer, especially if yours is still under warranty.

We havent suffered the problem since.

Can you post or send me a copy of the TSB or it's number.
For the third time the dealer sent my car home eith this
unfixed. The e-brake engages normally but it shouldn't
slip even occasionally.

No problem Woog.

PTDIY have a whole page dedicated to TSB's here:

http://www.ptdoityourself.net/pttsb.html

The one we showed our dealer is listed on that site as item number 13. The text basically reads:

Make: CHRYSLER TRUCK Model: PT CRUISER Year: 2001

Service Bulletin Number: 050200 Bulletin Sequence Number: 125 Date of Bulletin: 04/00

NHTSA Item Number: SB612599
Component: EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE
Summary:
SUBJECT REGARDING REVISED PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL PROCEDURES. *TT

As I mentioned earlier, our dealer was already familiar with the problem, but was still interested in the TSB, he reckoned he hadnt seen it before!! Admitedly, it only mentioned the removal of the handbrake and not the actual problem with slipping itself.

Hope it helps.
