Default Bad Paint Job PT Cruiser

My PT Cruiser with the Patriot Pearl Coat is having its paint chip from maybe a rocks hitting it. I took it back to the dealer and he said he was only able to get Chrysler to cover the hood. This isn't good for a car that is only 8 months old. Chrysler should be covering all of this because the whole paint job is bad.

So beware of a poor paint job on this color or darker colors. I believe the warrantly doesn't cover rock chips, but a car should have better quality to last longer thatn 8 months/17,000 miles.

Is there someway to rally the troops and get Chrysler to cover everything? I don't want my car rusty out due to some poor paint job.

Art- appreciate the work. Your signature still make me smirk

Are you going to the Jersey Cruise?? Perhaps set up a table/booth and get some signatures and pictures of stone chips to strengthen your case.

Cheers dude!!

I complained about the paint chips to my dealer. They are willing to re-paint my hood, no charge, but suggested that I wait for a while yet.

I am a little concerned about getting the hood repainted since factory paint is the most durable (because the factory can bake the parts at a higher temp.). I don't really have too many chips, so I think I will just keep touching them up....

Hmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,do I smell an opportunity here? Maybe someone (hello, Rich at Streamline!!!) could produce a nearly invisible vinyl-type transparent covering for the hood/fender areas to protect them. Maybe highlight the edges with pinstriping, mini flames or something. The grill would be difficult to do, but thats not metal anyway so less of a concern. Would anybody other than me buy someting like that?

Tom- I have been thinking of that, but moreso for myself, not mass produced.

I think I will try CLEAR SHELF paper on my trek to NJ. Press it on, trim at the body lines, remove the air bubbles, and drive to the cruise event. Once there, REMOVE. If there is any residue, which I doubt, wax cleaner will remove it.

For $2-$3, its worth a try!

Invisible Bra makes a simialr product, but theirs is permanent and much more $.

Sean..A place in Brampton makes this stuff called CHIPGUARD and sells it to retail only and not privately. I just called there and for a 6" by 72" strip, they sell it to Canadian Tire ans Walmart for $14.12. She then said that they in turn will Jack up the price to whatever they want.
I have a sample that they had sent me previously.
It is CLEAR and is actually Transparent on cars. it is:
Easy to cut
Easy to install
Molds with heat gun or hair dryer
Pressure-Sensitive adhesive applies wet or dry
Will not damage paint
Can be removed
A fraction of the cost of other protective films.
You can install it on your hood, on your door sills, rocker panels.

There is a NEW Black Jetta here at work which has it on it's hood.
I just went to look at it. The Film is transparent. The only way I saw it was because the Jetta was a tad dirty and some dust had collected at the edge of the strip on the hood.
Would not be a problem with PT Cruisers right since they are always clean !!

This place told me that Canadian Tire and or Walmart usually carries it. If they don't have anymore, Canadian Tire can "Special Order" it for you. Wal Mart does not Special Order.

For your info Sean:

Alpena Marklyn Co. Inc.
190 Hwy # 7 West, Suite. 28
Brampton, Ontario
TEL: (905) 451-4611

I called them to see if they could sell me some privately and they said NO..not to the public. I told her I wasn't just public. I own a PT Cruiser...Still no luck. Maybe you can try and convince them.
It can also be ordered in :
2" x 200' roll
4" x 200' roll
8" x 200' roll
12" x 200' roll

Marc
