Default Another Wheel Change Question - What About Flat Tires?

Thanx to all who answered my question about changing to 18 inch wheels. I think I
have the info I need to make a decision. After reading all the comments and visiting
the TireRack website I have a good idea of what is out there and what is involved.

However.....another question has popped up. What to do about FLAT tires ? The spare tire that comes with the LE Cruiser is a 16 incher. I don't think it will be a good idea to install a 16 inch wheel on the opposite side of an 18 (or maybe 17) incher because of damage to the drive train that would possibly result.

What do those of you who have changed wheel sizes do for the possibilty of a flat tire?
The only thing I can think of is to get another 17 or 18 inch wheel and tire to use as the
spare. And then.....I wonder if the larger wheel tire combo will fit in the space where
the Cruiser (space-saver ?) spare tire/wheel is.

Thanx again in advance. I know someone will have the Answer !!! BTW.....I am prone to getting "unexplainable" flat tires.

Full marks for thinking about this. The spare is actually a "compact spare", or "temporary spare" that's only good for 2,000 miles. Bottom line- use it when you have to, but fix the flat ASAP!

If you "Plus 1" 2 times to get to the 18 inch rims, the height change with 18 inchers and the spare should be no different than with the 16 inchers and temp. spare.

I just went out an crawled under to see sizes, couldn't see poop!

yup the spare is only intended as a temporary solution, and your not suppose to exceed 55 mph i think, but who ever follows directions. Youll have to lug the flat in the back, because only the spare fits on the holder. On the brightside, if you place that spare on the front, with an 18"rim on the other side, you can pretend that you are a racer, because youll leave a nice amount of rubber on the pavement when you floor it :-)
