Do they come with ashtrays?? I ordered the smokers package-little ashtray that fits in the cupholder and a lighter, but have not seen a PT with an ashtray. I thought they all came with the CD player-mine have all had one, but I think I upgraded the radio in the base-jeez, I can't even remember.

Lisa- The ashtray is a MOPAR accessory for the PT. It's a little cup, I think ( I don't have one).
As for memories....the first week we had the PT we were at a red light when a big rig driver headed the opposite direction stopped his rig dead middle of the intersection, hopped out & ran across the lanes to ask us about the car. We were freaking out!!!

You also used to walk out to your car , when shopping, to find at least 3-15 people milling around the car looking inside & then you had to give a "tour" to show them all the cool stuff in it ( like the picnic table rear shelf).
I got some of Rich's "Look , Admire, Criticize...but please don't TOUCH my PT Cruiser" window clings for just such occassions. It was really annoying to wash the car to perfection & come out to find nose & finger prints all over it!
OH! One more really funny memory was the older lady who walked through Walmart looking for me, after she saw me pulling into the parking lot. She actually went into the store & bought a disposable camera. She then asked if I could take a picture of her sitting in the car & standing by it. I opened it up & she had me snap the whole camera in pics of her behind the wheel, in the back, next to it, etc. She said the PT was her "Dream Car"... how could I say no? ( I was rather flattered actually. I could have been in a Viper for all the attention & adoration she bestowed on my little PT).

Thumbs up Re: Wow...4 years ago today.....

Rachel,

I was more fortunate than you, I went to the dealership and bought one off the lot. When I first went out, I had intentions of buying a Deep Cranberry base model. It was still on the lot that morning when I called. Three hours later, it was one very sold puppy. I started looking around to see what else was available. My 2nd color of choice was a bright silver. The salesman then showed me the newest color, a steel blue! I loved it, took a test drive and drove it home that day I too get a big ol PT Grin on my face every time I go for a cruise in mine as well. Cant wait for this weekend. Happy Cruising

Rick

I was very lucky! Back when there was a six-month wait for Cruisers to be delivered, I let a retired AF Chief Master Sergeant I knew who worked at the local DC delaership that I was in the market for a Deep Cranberry Cruiser with a manual tranny. Lo and behold, a few weeks later, he phoned me and said a customer who had ordered a base Cranberry Cruiser with a stick shift had gotten tired of waiting for it to arrive and had opted to buy a Sebring instead. The customer's Cruiser had arrived that very morning and since it was a stick shift (which almost nobody around here wants), I would snap it up and use the good old DC employee discount. Which I did, very gladly.

Congrats on the hitting 4 years!

I'm comin up on my 4 years pretty soon. I remember the waiting, checking my status all the time, and almost cancelling the 5 speed on it because I thought I might get an automatic quicker! It took about 3 months for my cruiser to come in.

It's cool to remember all the attention the cruisers got back then. I drove from St Louis to Vegas and what a trip that was. I think I pumped my own gas maybe 3 times the whole trip. The attendants at the stations were more than happy to come out and do it to get a closer look. People honked their horns, flashed their lights, gave lots of thumbs up the entire trip. Giving tours every time I stopped.

The best memory is driving through new mexico and some young kid pulled up next to me on the road. We were cruising along and he rolled his window down and signaled for me to do the same. He was asking all kinds of questions abut the cruiser. But the expression on his face was priceless. I can't even describe it. He was just totally gaga over the cruiser. I've often wondered he if ever got one.

Sorry for the long post and trip down memory lane.

I've only had my PT GT for 11 months, but I'm really happy with it.
I wanted one from the first time I saw, but there were three problems. 1) The wait was 6 to 8 months.
2) The price was as much as $11K over sticker.
3) Horsepower was way to low.
Finally last May, I called my lease lady and asked if she could find an electric blue, stick. She found a stick and an auto stick. Turns out the autostick was cheaper, due to resale value, so I opted for the auto stick. The car was delivered to my house, and I never even visited a dealer's show room. Great way to buy a car.The only mod I've added is a Magnaflow cat-back, which I got free from Magnaflow, for allowing them to use my car to prototype their system. Sounds great and got me an extra 9HP.

I know how you feel. I have been moving and have been off line for a few weeks so didn't get to announce our 4th anniversary. Bought ours on 3/27/2000 and still love it. I did just last week start driving it on a regular basis. Until then, it was just for pretty weather and special occasions. But with the price of gas and my old Grand Cherokee having 180,000 miles that I finally decided it was time to give the Cruiser more service. I actually enjoy using it more as I love to drive it over anything else we have and now there are so many others on the road that I get to flash and wave many times a day at another cruiser. I actually get quite a few responses which sort of surprised me.

Happy 4th Rachael! My Ruby will be 4 on 12/11/04... time sure flies when you're driving a PT!

I remember spending the summer and fall of 2000 trying to find a PT, even to order one but nobody would lock in the price. I even had to go to Myrtle Beach 1 in November 2000 PT-less! Yes... I was the one drooling all over the PTs there and it never dawned on me that I'd be driving one a month later!

Every dealer in town had my name and number and one finally called me to say somebody ordered an inferno red PT and changed their mind when it came in. It took me 15 min to get there and there was already 4 people looking at the car! I bought it without even looking at it first! The folks that were looking were not happy with me... one person even offered me $5K over what I paid for it!

Now, with 67,000 miles, we're getting spruced up to go to Myrtle Beach 5. The friendships made because of this little car are priceless. Whether your PT is brand new or 4 years old, you'll never meet a nicer bunch of folks.
