Default Friend dumping her PT

I can't believe it. This lady that I work with is going to get rid of her 2002 Limited because of a water pump failure. She's only got 34,000 miles!!! Isn't it still under warranty? She went to the dealer she bought it at and they tried to get her to pay $2,000 for the repair, I told her she was nuts and to go to another dealer but she didn't go yet, the PT is just sitting in her driveway.
If she tries to sell it in its present condition she'd be lucky to get $7,000 if anybody will even buy it.

She needs to go to another dealership-that vehicle is under warranty.

$2000 for a waterpump?

Is that attached to a brand new engine?

its driven by the cam belt so the job is very labor intensive + with the cramped engine bay the motor may need to come out but not sure.

Yes, indeed, it should be a warranty repair. Sounds kinda fishy.
