Default What are original brake pads ?

I thought I would check on the price of Ceramic front brake pads. They are not as expensive as I thought they would be..
But my question is.
What did the 2001 PT Cruiser come with on the front of the car originally ?
A few places have told me that they came with ceramic pads. I told them I thought they were semi-metallic. Because of all the black brake dust. If by some miracle they are. What could cause the black dust ?

I thought everyone knew it already,.....

They are a mid-grade semi metallic pad manufactured to Chrysler specs by Wagner (Federal Mogul).
The MX-841 is an upgrade, while the ZX-841 is below OE specs and in line with Mopar's "value line" of brakes.

The NAPA CMX-7716 ceramic is the best pad I've found, with the best availability.

HA
I thought I was right.
Goes to show that some of the parts stores have no idea what they are talking about !

The original pads are made of compressed coal dust.
