Default Question about the Verts

I have a friend here at work that has an 01 aqua 5-speed cruiser and he is looking to buy a plum vert (for his wife-yeah, right-he is keeping the aqua). He wanted a 5-speed turbo lite, but as we all know-there is no such animal, so he is getting the regularly aspirated 5-speed touring edition. Anyway the dealership guy told him he would not be able to order it and get it for quite some time because he said that D/C was building all the Turbos before the made any others. I had not heard this. I told him he should be able to order one and get it in about 4 weeks. He said no, they are only building the turbos first.

Anyone here know if that is true???

I'm not sure what's going on, but when I ordered mine (the 1st to
arrive at the dealer) there was no option to order the turbo. I heard
the non-turbos will be made in limited numbers. He would really want a turbo anywya

When we ordered our PLUM PT GT Convt in Jan, the only thing you could order was the touring with/without the turbo, or the GT with the turbo, of course I ordered the top of the line to go with my 01 Aqua 5spd, for my wife, HEE HEE, yeah it'll be her daily driver its the only way I'll be able to afford the gas. Also you coulnd't get a five speed with the turbo on the touring, only normal aspiration. The getrag 5 spd was a part of the GT package and the automatic was an option. OH YEAH were still waiting. I think they ordered wrong cause they do have a plum touring turbo automatic.

They must be building Some n/a cause one of the local dealers here is listing a base model vert at $19,995.

Lisa, i do believe that is False.
As a matter of fact, I went and took some photos of one of the PT Convertibles that was dropped ff at a local Dealership here in toronto.
It is a TOURING EDITION Turbo.
Also, I didn't see it but another dealership near me said that they had just received a Silver Touring Edition Convert as well. i'll be able to verify that tomorrow (Saturday) since it will be in the Show room.

From what I have seen , you can only get the 5 speed
in the NA 2.4 liter or the GetRag 5 speed with the HO turbo. The Turbo
Lite only comes with the Automatic ... Who knows why you cannot
get the 5 speed with the turbo Lite , I would think those would sell real good ....I have seen one Base 5 speed convertable here in the St. Louis
Metro area. All the others I have seen have been either Turbo Lites
or HO turbos all with Auto's...

According to the DC.com site, the vert ONLY comes in the TOURING Edition (2.4L normally aspirated) and the PT GT (full turbo).

The turbo lite does NOT appear to be an option on the convertible.

Wow-I am more confused than ever! If there is no Turbo-lite, how is he getting one? He said they settled for the plum Turbo -lite cause they could get that in 8 weeks. I will be glad when it gets here so I can see it in person!!! Here is his e-mail-

Lisa,

I was at University Autopark Saturday. The base model conv is not the Touring Edition. The 5 spd Touring Edition can't be ordered period. When the inventory manager tried, Chrysler's system told him, "Order cannot be placed." We decided to get a LO turbo because we didn't want to wait, and it was the only way we could get 4 wheel disc brakes. We'll have it in about 8 weeks.

"It does exist!!!" (spoken the like M & M commercial)

The information seems to be accurate, right now they are building primarily all turbo automatic convertibles, either H.O. GTs or Tourings. But the 'vert WILL be available in the NA 5 speed form, but why there is a delay, who knows?

Also a limited number of "base" convertibles (the under $20K one) are to be produced (presumably both 5M and autos), how they're going to be allotted/ordered is a mystery. Probably they will be shipped to limited number of "choice" dealers.
