Reids: Maybe the best alternative for your concern is to put the headlight switch on a key-switched power source so that they go off with the key? Subaru has done this with their cars for many years. No need to think of turning them off when you park the car...the key does it for you. (We just found a button on the steering column of our Outback that lets the lights come on without the key.)

Joem: I have to re-iterate Slapper's question. Why would DRL's ever be a bad thing? I don't find that the yellow ones coming out are as noticable as headlamps, but at least they have them. They're mostly there to make you visible to others in not-so-perfect conditions, such as dawn, dusk, rain, etc. Just yesterday I could have blown a gasket (in my head) when I looked into my rear view mirror, on a clouded, nasty wet day to find someone's grille on my tail.

The American "invention", which is more a rip-off and devaluing trend, of the turn signal mirrors is nice, but not as good as the Euro style turn signal between the front wheels and doors. They simply don't have as wide of a viewing angle and, although I'm one to praise safety features, are more form over function. At least the manufacturers are doing those voluntarily.

I would be first in line to vote DRL's into law if it came to that. Well, that, and to get rid of those blasted HID lights. {Blink}{Blink}

Thanks for all the great input. I got used to the idea of having the lights on when I had my old BMW, the lights would come on automatically. The Pt is still new to me even though I bought it used. Sat in the driveway for about 2 minutes waited to see if they would come on by themselves. Boy did I fell dumb. So for now I'll just turn them on when I start the car. Next post will probably be, Hey dead Battery, what happen.

Hey, if it's that bad out, the person in front should be using their headlights (which, of course, would turn on ther tail lights)! It's a law here in NY! If the wipers come on, the lights come on. Maybe they should make that automatic?

We used to ALL do that before the Government passed the DRL law and we started to get lazy because the car does it for us. Everyone in this house turns the key with one hand and the headlight switch with the other, rain or shine, day or night.

I'm not convinced that on a clear day they serve any purpose at all, and that on "not-so-perfect-conditions," they make folks think they're ingood shape, no need to turn on the headlights, 'cause the DRLs are on. You want 'em, put 'em on, but I prefer to use my standard equipment index finger and opposable thumb and turn on the headlights. And watch what you say about our turn signals. Lots of cars in Europe at one time didn't even have them.
