Default tranny pan leak

hey guys,
i was changing the oil on the cruiser this past weekend. I noticed some tranny fluid on the bottom of the pan, so i ran my finger around the edge and it seems to be seaping thru. I'm planning on taking it in to my no star dealer, should this be covered under the 7/7 warranty? I did the 1/2 shift burp wire snip last year would they be able to detect this? And could the 1/2 wire snip be a cause for this leak?
Thanks,
Donald In South Texas

I just changed my tranny filter and put in new fluid. Once taking the old off, the only "seal" is some rubber goop no real seal on there. The new replacement kit comes with a new cork seal, then you also use some rubber sealent as well. Been two weeks and no problems. It is also good to clean the magnet when you are at it. I could not beleive the buildup on it.

Got the kit from Napa, and I am thinking it was no more then twenty dollars, that included the seal, new filter and o ring. Had to buy the rubber sealant stuff and new fluid from DC. So over all about a 50.oo project, but well worth it if it extends the life of the tranny.

tried to take the cruiser in this morning to my local dealer to check out this leak. the dealer (Don Johnson Motors in Brownsville, TX) wanted to charge me a $59.95 diagnosis fee. they said if the problem was covered under warranty i would not have to pay this. i told them forget it. especially since goodyear told me they could do the fix for $108.00. has anyone heard of a dealer charging a diagnosis fee? i called a dealer an hour away that has a good rep and they said to bring it in tomorrow and no they do not charge for diagnosis as long as the vehicle is still under warranty. my car is a 02 with 22,900 miles.

They should not charge you a diagnosis fee if the vehicle is under warranty. Have them check the solenoid pack. Mine was leaking and apparently this is a common problem (they actually keep them stocked on the shelf). Hope this helps.

Make sure the multiple bolts are torqued properly- that will ensure that the gasket is seated properly.

Better check the fluid level also- last thing you want is LESS tranny fluid that you need in a DC tranny.

ALSO- if yuo HAVE TO TOP UP, use ONLY the DC type- I think its 7176 type (check the manual)- do NOT use standard ATF3 or whatever your auto shop might have on sale- USE ONLY EOM tranny fluid!!!!

Tranny fluid (per MX-5) is ATF 4 or ATF 5 ONLY.
