You need to follow the procedure. Once you get the definite "no, not covered," from the service manager, you make an appointment with the general manager and ask for either replacement or repaint--take him/her out of their office and show them how nasty the tape marks look, how you go to Cruiser meets and other places and folks have remarked about it...and do so politely.
If you still get a "no," follow the procedures listed in your warranty book and work the DC chain of command from the district rep to the arbitration board. Have good, sharp pictures of the tape marks to send to DC via email. If you can get some names of dleareships who did replace/repair the tape marks, get 'em (just as you are doing with this thread). Sinwagon and others have gotten satisfaction on this issue and you can, too. Just keep your cool and be persistent. Good luck.
