Yah, What do I really know .I only worked for Sun oil co (Sunoco) for the past Thirty years before retiring and I ran there Octane testing lab for the last 12 years. so I guess I really don't know what I'm talking about. NOT. One other piece of useless information, If you see a tank truck filling the tanks drive on by. get it the next day. And if you take the gas cap off for a couple of hours at home the light ends will evaporate and the octane will go up in value. So if you get a ping on 87 octane and then you take off your gas cap for a couple off hours the ping could go away. If not go to the next grade.. When every you go to have your emissions tested do not use high test ,use regular. A little rubbing alcohol in your tank will help your cruiser run Better in the winter. About 16 oz.

Not sure what that first part of the post was all about...

If you are going to use Rubbing Alcohol, you should use the 99% isopropyl kind. Using the standard 70% type, means that 30% of that is WATER!!!

In the old days, you could also use methyl hydrate- or paint thinner/paint brush cleaner as an anti-freeze. Since injectors are aluminum, do NOT use methyle hydrate anymore. Use a fuel injector SAFE gas-line de-icer.

Ma Kettle says that's one 'a' her secrets for their cheap gas doing so well.

Cool Re: I'm convinced where you get gas effects mileage

Since Uncle Sam stepped in back in the early ninty's ,That's 1990's.All gasoline has been bascially the same per octane grade. On a single blending day for a tank of gasoline ,the ingredience will change more then once. It's sort of like baking a cake .it all depends on what product is available during that blend and still keep the octane at 87.All oil refinery's have on line Knock engines. These engine with the help of a computer sense the knock intensity of the fuel. If they don't knock there ok.These are very special one cyclinder engines..Back in the 90's our government said that all refiner's would come out with these new blends of fuel ,Oxygenated and reformulated. It all depends on what area of the country that you live in what type of fuel you get. come this March 15 th we will start to see our mileage starting to get better. There will be less Butane and MTBE in our gasoline , the MTBE will stay in the summer in most areas of the country.Except for California and a couple of others.I don't know why but most oil companies don't test Chrysler engines in there Reserch and delvelopement labs for any oil products. gasoline included. another thing Do you know how most of your fuel is shipped. One one big pipe line. that they all use. In Ashville North Carolina there is a Hess terminal in the middle of nothing . All the oil companies feed from those tanks. Kind of makes you wonder who's gas it really is. Do you ever wonder who owns those tank trucks that supply your favorite station with gas in those unmaked tank trucks. When I travel down the open highway to go for a cruise I stop at the first station I see with the cheapest price as long as it is name That I Know.

Agreed- its regulated that there are standard octane levels for the 3 grades of fuel, across all comapnies that sell gas. BUT, the octane rating amoung the 3 grades is NOT the same!

The pipeline that you talk about is NOT raw gas- it will be either crude oil, or refined crude, which still gets processed at the refinery BEFORE being graded. Diesel through Jet fuel is refined from a single pipeline load! Otherwise, you would need 8 different pipelines across the countries- Jet A through stove-oil!
