You use gas in a kerosene heater?

7 kms / L - how was that measured? Did you start with an FULL tank, drive till empty, top off to determine the L used, then divide the distance by the qty of fuel??

7 km/L equates to about 19.86 mpg (imperial gallon).

I typically get 450-500 kms on a full tank, using various fuels. SHELL typically cause they give AIR MILES .

Just taken my PT into the Whitby dealership for it's 15 K oil change.
I will be starting a new thread as problems were fixed.
However the Manager who owns 4 Jag's (older models) varified that Sunoco is the only gas he uses on his Jags because anything else will cause them to stall, sputter and just not perform. He also suggested to use the Mid Grade and ever 5th tank go Supreme.
They have cleaned out a lot of gas tanks from a build up of black sludge primarily from "Shell"....remember the class action lawsuit a few years back

THere are quality issues from brand to brand but Supreme gas is not really better than Regular. It is different, not better.

My father in law would not be convinced of this.....even after spending $600 in a fuel sustem rebuild. He allways put supreme gas in a car asking for regular. While it may not have been the cause ( the car was almost 15 years old) I tend to think it was.

A tank now and then will do nothing for you. it is like stabbing your self but every fifth stab you tickle instead. The damage is done no matter how hard you laugh.

I am sure we all could go round and round with this but the best advice I could give is stay with the gas that does best for you. Even if it is 2cents more. You will spend far less on the gas than you will to replace an engine.

Do you know whare it really comes from????? Costco does not manufacture gas, they buy it in bulk just like everything else they sell. They go with the cheepist deal they can make. Right now at least with our Costco it is Texico gas. Sheets gas is Texico as well.

California gasoline is pretty bad with the additives and other junk. I was a fairly loyal Chevron customer for 10 years but recently stopped buying from them when my mileage declined to 22 mpg. I started buying at Costco to save $0.10 - $0.20 per gallon and my mileage jumped back up to 24. On one work trip to San Diego for a meeting, mileage shot up to 28 mpg but has steadily declined since that tank, to 24.6 - 24.8 mpg.

Thumbs up Re: I'm convinced where you get gas effects mileage

one little bit of useless information on the gasoline subject. If you buy your gasoline in the morning you will get more volume per gallon. Usually gasoline is shipped warm .around 90 degrees. so if it sits in a underground tank overnight the ground temp of 65 degrees will cool the fuel and make it less dense. So when it gets in your fuel gank it will expand some. keep on buying Sunoco I need the money.

Huh. Ma and Pa Kettle say that if you buy their fishin' worms in the morning, you get more wigglers per quart. Maybe the same principle?

That is interesting... I have noticed during the seasons in California that in winter (usually mid-50's to upper 60's), the pump handle turns from cold (sitting in open air) to very warm when pumping fuel but in summer (97 - 103 degrees) the handle changes from being hot to the touch (sitting in sun) to quite cold. I was under the impression that at least here in CA, the UST's are climate controlled, to an extent.

Does anyone know how this all works and if there is a better time of day to purchase fuel?

That's just the effect of the buried gas tank being "climate controled" by an insulating layer of dirt and concrete. The gas temp is probably always around 60 - 70 in Califronia (even without additional climate control) - it does not change much do to the heat of the day or cool of the night, so it feels cool on a hot day and somewhat warmer when the outside temps dip below 60.

SO it probably doesn't matter when you buy it, and I suspect the density changes (more dense when cold, more volatile when hot) would be minimal anyway (water changes from 1.00 to 0.995 between 40F and 100F, although gasoline would probably change more)
