I like hearing better mileage. How about cost per mile? To me that's the best measure, since "pick-up" can be somewhat subjective. I've been getting the cheapest stuff I can find, but maybe it's time to study it more...hhhmmm...

I get the same if I use Amoco, QT or Race Trak (cheap station). Why pay more? If you watch how you drive and don't be a leadfoot, your mileage will improve.
I'll stick with the cheapest I can find. |

Although I DON'T disagree with the findings that station A's gas gives better mileage than stations B's, the only 100% scientific way to determine this would be to run SIMILAR tests using absolute SIMILAR conditions iwth the 2 fuels in question- humidity, operating temps, road course, load, ambient temp, ... all have to be the SAME in order to prove the hypothesis.
7 kms / L - how was that measured? Did you start with an FULL tank, drive till empty, top off to determine the L used, then divide the distance by the qty of fuel?? 7 km/L equates to about 19.86 mpg (imperial gallon). I typically get 450-500 kms on a full tank, using various fuels. SHELL typically cause they give AIR MILES . ![]() S

My driving in ordinarily consistent, reflecting my ordinary life! Fill up Friday, trip up the coast and back on weekend, kid to school 5 days, highway trip to the office, local driving the rest of the tank. I'm averaging around 28mpg (27ish - 29ish) and this last tank from the supposed good servo I got just under 25mpg. Went back to the usual servo and filled up so I'll give you those stats next week.

With previous cars, I used cheap gas and found I got cheap gas mileage. I then switched to using Chevron and my gas mileage greatly improved! When I bought I bought my PT I started varying between Chevron & Costco gas. I soon found out that I was getting much better gas mileage and engine performance on Costco premium gas compared to Chevron's midgrade. I pay less for Costco premium gas than I do for the midgrade. I fortunately have a Costco close to me, so filling up isnt out of my way.
