Default PT Being Shipped by Boat

I just heard that my new PT has left Toluca on 2/3/04 and is headed for Veracruz, Mexico to be shipped by boat to Newark, New Jersey. How long does that take? How many stops along the way? Anyway - my PT is on her way home - It's a step in the right direction.

Hopefully it doesn't go to China first!! Seriously, what happened to the rail system? I thought that was pretty fast.

Chrysler discovered that a sea cruise made PT's happier and they arrived in the dealership in a better frame of mind.

During the cruise, the cars are pampered with midnight buffets, drinks with little paper umbrellas and massages on the Lido Deck.

I think the rail is still used through the mid section of the country; but I guess boat is cheaper to the Atlantic and NE....hopefully its not much slower!

It takes longer by boat. My last two where shipped this way to PA. The first one was 1 month in transit. The boat ride itself took 8 days, port to port. But remember, it's first by rail from the factory to the port in Mexico., then on to the boat, and then to Baltimore, MD and other points. Once there, it sits for another week until a car carrier picks it up. The last Cruiser I ordered, was damaged in shipment because of this method - saltwater damage. Chrysler sold it as salvage. No matter which way you look at it, it's a mess this way. It was better on the train. Cost savings again. If you know your rial car number, you can at least track it in Mexico here:

It's about a week from the factory to the port in Mexico. After its loaded on the boat, there's no way to follow it anymore. Just hope it doesn't get waterlogged like mine did.

Good luck

This may be the way Chrysler will be shipping PTs in the future.
MIAMI - Eleven Cubans trying to sail to Florida in a 1950s Buick converted into a tailfinned boat were intercepted at sea by the Coast Guard and will be sent back to their homeland, exile activists said Wednesday.

Marciel Basanta Lopez and Luis Grass Rodriguez, the two men who turned the classic car into a floating vessel, tried a similar stunt last summer and got caught: They set out for Florida in a 1951 Chevy pickup with pontoons made out of empty 55-gallon drums and a propeller that pushed it along at about 8 mph.

On Monday, the men set out again, with four other adults and five children, relatives said. The Coast Guard intercepted the group late Tuesday en route to the Florida Keys, picking them up about 10 miles off Marathon, which is about 90 miles southwest of Miami, activist Arturo Cobo said.

Well, it's got to be faster way then what they use now. This poor guy, it's his second attempt at this. He should be allowed to stay just based on his ingenuity and perseverance alone.

It will take longer by boat but will definitely be safer that method also! In northern Mexico, thieves have been known to block rail lines and steal cars that are being transported. This has been going on for some time now. A friend of mine who used to live here was thinking of moving back to Mexico City and either driving his Jeep CJ-5 or having it transported by rail. He was advised to do neither one as he would end up losing it by bandits and never seeing it again. Lets just hope the boat doesnt go to South America first either. Boatloads of stolen vehicles end up there frequently too!

Boat? That's interesting. Mine is on a train in Texas someplace - waiting for it here in Denver.
