Default need help with speedometer

the light behind my speedometer has gone out. so when driving at night, the "60" mph doesnt light up. everything else does.

is there a group of bulbs that light up the whole cluster of gauges? and if so, would it be easy to replace the one that has gone out?

or would it be a good idea to take this opportunity and install a new set of gauges like the flame light-up ones, or the glo-gauges?

and if i do change to one of these aftermarket gauges, is the lighting changed as well? or do i have to still buy some replacement bulb for the light that has gone out?

thanks for anybody who can help.

According to the 2001 service manual, you are LUCKY!! It says that ONLY the illumination, turn signal and high beam bulbs are replaceable- anything else, and the ENTIRE CLUSTER has to be replaced.

See the picture below for the bulb locations. The bulbs are PC194's.

Email me with your address (use the PM here), and I will cut/paste the procedure from the service manual.

Thanks for posting the pictures and telling what bulbs are needed. I'll have to get some, since I can't see the left and righ sections...

The service manual is in PDF format so I COPIED and PASTED images from the file into a WORD doc. There is a section that says "see bezel removal guide within this section" so I copied that section as well. The file is 800K.

Enjoy.

See the picture below for the bulb locations. The bulbs are PC194's.

Hey Sean,
One little detail. The bulbs on the right in this picture are the PC 194s you mention. They aren't the illumination bulbs, though, the ones on the left are. I don't have their number, I'll get that tomorrow when I go to the dealer. (I think they're ST72s, but I'm not sure.) I'll let you know...

Chuck

Bummer- the application guide in the service manual states:

These are PC74s. I had to try 3 dealers with no luck, finally had the third one order 4 for me. They're only $2US, but nobody seems to stock them.

I managed to take out all of the other lights by removing the panel assembly. Hopefully, they'll all come back on when I put the new bulbs in. I'm quite sure I set the assembly into the plug, so I'll have to see what heppens next time...

My problem with my speedometer is that it keeps reading 80 mph and 90 mph and I'm hardly touching the gas pedal.

Really, officer...the speedometer's gotta be off or something.
