DRIVE LINE ???? maybe a cv joint and it wont trip a code.

Generally, if you turn the wheels and get the "ticking" sound, that's the sign of a CV joint failing. Doesn't sound like the case here.

I don't think it has anything to do with the suspension or steering system...but then again, I am no technician. My reasoning for this is that driving over bumps and potholes(when I can't avoid them), or taking corners (slow and fast), the car still feels tight and there are no funny noises.

The knock I hear even happens on a perfectly smooth, new paved road, going straight ahead...or turning...doesn't seem to make a difference.

As Steve mentioned, it feels like a little slip just before the torque is applied to the tranny (doesn't matter whether it is starting from stop in first gear, or while moving going from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc).
